Rs7.4 mln fraud through ATM unearthed in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: A fraud of Rs7.4 million through an ATM machine of a private bank has been detected in Bahawalpur. According to police, a trader of Bahawalpur committed the fraud by using the option of fund transfer through the ATM.The police arrested the accused on the complaint lodged by manager of the private bank.Although special teams have arrived in Bahawalpur to find out how the fraud was committed but so far it has failed to ascertain it.

Proposal to scrap criminal cases if not executed in 2 years

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has proposed a bill for amending the Criminal Procedure Code under which a case if not disposed of in two years will be scrapped.Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gillani today chaired the meeting of the Federal Cabinet today in Islamabad.Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Federal Minister for Information, Sherry Rehman said it the cabinet has regularized all employees of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), who have completed nine months of service as contractual employees. The cabinet has also returned back the Gowader Port Authority bill without passing, to a special committee for review. The cabinet has approved amendment in the code of criminal procedure under which all under trial prisoners of capital offence being prosecuted with out bail for two years will automatically get bail. Other under trial prisoners will get bail after one year. In case of women, the terms are one year and six months respectively.The Cabinet was informed of the decision of the deposed Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhery, through which he has cancelled several allotments in the port city of Gwadar. The cabinet has also sent all allotments of land and, sale and purchase decisions made by the Gwadar Port Authority for review by the same special committee. The cabinet has also taken a principle decision to regularize all contractual employees of the federal government below the basic pay scale 15. The employees should have completed two years of service with the government. The Cabinet has asked the finance Ministry to present budgetary appropriations for the decision in the next cabinet meeting for inclusion of the decision in the federal budget.The cabinet has also passed demutualization and consolidation bill of the Stock exchanges. Under the law management of the stock exchanges will be separated from traders. It will further consolidate the market by making it more transparent.The cabinet approved amendments in the Representation of People Act, under which, the election Commission can not delay decision on the pending election case beyond four months.

Punjab Assembly called into session on June 6

LAHORE: Muslim League-N Chief Mian Shahbaz Sharif would be elected Punjab chief minister prior to the budget session, while the interim chief minister, Dost Muhammad Khosa would resign.Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah Khan told Geo News that the Punjab Assembly has been called into session for the election of the new chief minister on June 6 and Mian Shahbaz Sharif would be taking oath as member Punjab Assembly on the same day., while the interim chief minister, Dost Muhammad Khosa would resign and the House would elect the new Leader of the House besides Mian Shahbaz Sharif would be taking the vote of confidence also in the same session and, thereafter, this session would be put off and a separate budget session would be called.

Sindh to begin 15 agri-schemes under new budget

KARACHI: Sindh Agriculture Department has proposed in the upcoming budget launching of 15 new schemes besides setting up of Benazir Bhutto Agriculture Services Centre for providing facilities to the growers. Provincial Agriculture Department has submitted its Rs2 billion development budget proposals for the year 2008-09 to the finance ministry, which included scheme for installing windmills for irrigation purposes, construction of 1500 new watercourses, training of women for picking of cotton and technical training for nursery of fruits and flowers amid other schemes. The proposal of setting up of Benazir Bhutto Agriculture Services Centre for providing one-window facility for the disbursement of loans, seeds, agricultural medicines, fertilizer etc. to the growers.

NSC elimination bill submits in NA

ISLAMABAD: A bill for the elimination of National Security Council (NSC) has been submitted in National Assembly.Peoples Party MNA Abdul Sattar has submitted the bill for the elimination of NSC act as a private member.When Geo News contacted advisor for Parliamentary Affairs Izhar Amrohvi in this connection, he said that government has nothing to do with the bill because government would include the issue in constitutional package.
