Kazakhstan beat Pak in International volleyball tournament

ALMATY: Kazakhstan senior team beat Pakistan junior team by 3-0 in the President of Kazakhstan International Volleyball Tournament here. Seven countries including host Kazakhstan, Iran, Pakistan, Bahrain, Russia, Tunisia and Slovenia are contesting in the event which will conclude on July 13. In the first set, Pakistan performed well but Kazakhstan spikers put them under pressure with better game plan and collective efforts to win it 25-23 and taking lead by claiming the following set 25-22.Pak junior failed to tackle a stronger challenge bowing down to persistent attacking and perfect smashes of their opponents who wrapped up the match winning the third set 25-23.

Qureshi asks Afghanistan to deploy forces in border areas

NEW YORK: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has proposed Afghanistan to deploy its forces at Pak-Afghan border to curb terror activities. The statement by Shah Mahmood Qureshi, coming during late Wednesday’’s U.N. Security Council session on Afghanistan’’s future.“Pakistan will not allow its territory to be used against other countries. However, no foreign troops will be allowed to operate in side Pakistan,”” Qureshi told the 15-nation council. “The new democratic government in Pakistan cannot but be sensitive to the sentiments of our people.”” Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta described the car bombing as another “in the succession of increasingly brutal attacks that targeted the people of Afghanistan, the region, and the world.”” He said the counterterrorism efforts, if they are to succeed in reducing the escalating violence, must now be joined by greater efforts to eliminate “root causes”” of narcotics, corruption and poverty. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Kai Eide, told the council Afghanistan was experiencing “an unprecedented level of insurgent and terrorist activities.””

Steels Mill increases prices of various products

KARACHI: Pakistan Steels on Thursday increased the prices of its various products from Rs2000 to Rs5000 while prices of billets used in making of steel remained unchanged.Pak Steels Mill officials told Geo News that price of hot roll has been increased from Rs2000 to Rs4500 per ton which is now estimated at Rs69, 000 per ton. Similarly, the same price of cold roll has also been increased which not stands at Rs68, 000.Steels Mill also increased prices of various galelionized steel products, which is new, estimated between Rs70, 000 to Rs80, 000 with the addition of Rs5000. Beside this, prices of several other items have also increased.
