Rupee stable against dollar

ISLAMABAD: The value of rupee remained stable against dollar on Wednesday following the steps taken by the central bank coupled with improvement in the foreign remittances in dollar.Sources of forex market told Geo News that the dollar sold for Rs70.80 at the onset of trading at the inter-bank and after some fluctuation managed to close at the same rate.The State Bank of Pakistan is undertaking strict monitoring to ensure stability in the rupee value while improvement in dollar supply has been witnessed in the banking system.

Hockey team for Olympics not selected on merit: Mudassar Ali

LAHORE: Hockey Olympian Mudassar Ali Khan said that merit has been destroyed in selection of Pakistan hockey team for Beijing Olympics.He said if the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) does not give respect to senior players then he would announce retirement after the Beijing Olympics.Talking with media at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore, Mudassar Ali Khan said that after he was dropped from the team due to his knee injury the federation has totally forgotten him.He said that the existence of the PHF is only due to the players but the federation does not give any respect to the players.Mudassar said that he has become fit through his own efforts but the PHF is not giving him his due right.He said that the team for the Olympics has not been selected on merit.Mudassar Ali Khan has represented Pakistan in 247 international matches.

PM approves wheat import via Gwadar Port

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved one-third of the total import of wheat through Gwadar Port.The Joint Secretary of Ministry of Shipping and Ports while talking to Geo news said the wheat import via Gwadar Port in August would mark the commencement of operations at the port.He further said that the handling charges of ships are lower compared to those of Karachi Port.
