KARACHI: Deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has left for Karachi on Tuesday morning.The deposed chief justice was see-off by lawyers and representatives of civil society.According to leaders of Karachi Bar Association, Chaudhry Iftikhar would reach Karachi at 11:30 am. He would welcome by a rally and would later dropped at the residence of deposed Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Justice Subbihuddin Ahmad.Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry would attend a reception hosted by Lawyers Club at 8:00 pm.He will address the lawyers of Sindh High Court on July 30 and would leave for Islamabad on the same day.

KARACHI: Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr Shamshad Akhtar is presenting today the Monetary policy for the next six months.Besides increase in discount rate, increase in the minimum rate of profit on bank accounts and change in procedure of re-finance are expected in the monetary policy.For reviewing the monetary policy, a meeting of the SBP Monetary Board will be held on Wednesday at the State Bank in Karachi in which the new policy will be approved.According to banking sources, the central bank may increase 33 per cent in sensitive items, 17 per cent in core inflation and 1.5 per cent in the rate of interest for stabilizing the falling value of rupee.As per monetary data, the State Bank of Pakistan issued new currency notes of Rs 142 billion during the previous year which is 42 per cent higher than the financial year 2007 while Rs 484 million were increased in the cost of accounts which is 12 per cent less than year 2007.The SBP therefore may increase bank discount rate and simultaneously may increase the minimum limit of interest rate on bank accounts from five per cent to seven per cent.
