KARACHI: The local capital market witnessed selling pressure following cut in oil marketing companies? margins besides offloading by foreign investors.The benchmark KSE-100 Index sliding 269 points pegged at 10,584.Today?s trade began with an upbeat mood and at one point the Index was seen crossing 10,900 level barrier. But the bulls failed to sustain the gains as selling at later stage plunged the market in the red zone, eroding 269 points at market close.Trade activity remained weak as only 115 million shares exchanged hands, showing a decline of 2 million shares compared to yesterday?s trade.Arif Habib Securities saw maximum activity which slashed Rs7.03 to close at 133.67.NIB bank closed lower by 87 paisas to Rs9.88 and National Bank lost Rs6.30 to Rs119.74.

GALLE: Harbhajan Singh bagged four quick wickets in a magnificent spell to put Sri Lanka under pressure in the second Test against India here on Friday.The off-spinner (4-71) removed well-set Kumar Sangakkara and Malinda Warnapura in successive overs before Sri Lanka struggled to reach 215-5 in their first innings at stumps in reply to India’’s 329 on the second day.Sangakkara (68) and Warnapura (66) helped Sri Lanka overcome the third-ball dismissal of Michael Vandort with a 133-run stand for the second wicket before Harbhajan struck to restore India’’s fortunes on a spinners” day.Skipper Mahela Jayawardene was unbeaten on 46 and Prasanna Jayawardene on five not out at the close of play.India were bowled out on the stroke of lunch after resuming at 214-4, with explosive opener Virender Sehwag (201 not out) becoming only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to carry his bat through the innings.Sehwag also became the 10th Indian to complete 5,000 Test runs during his fifth score of 200 and more, including two triple-centuries. He hit four sixes and 22 fours in his 231-ball knock.The Indian batsmen, especially Sehwag, were involved in an engrossing duel with Sri Lanka’’s unorthodox spinner Ajantha Mendis (6-117), who took a maiden haul of five or more wickets in an innings in only his second Test.

KARACHI: Top seeded world no. 23 Aamir Atlas Khan continued his onslaught and thrashed his last-eight opponent in straight sets while compatriot Waqar Mehboob also recorded a formidable triumph to make it to the pre-finals of 15th World Junior Men’’s Squash Championship underway in Zurich, Switzerland. Peshawar based Aamir faced Egyptian Andrew Wagih in the quarterfinal showdown and recorded a convincing 9-1, 9-5 9-0 triumph celebrating his 18th birthday in style. Squash prodigy Jhansher Khan nephew is yet to drop a set in the tournament. Meanwhile seed Waqar Mehboob stunned fourth seeded world no.139 French Gregory Marshe in the quarters. The 16-year-old reigning Pakistan Junior champion from Peshawar, battled for 74 minutes to overcome the 18-year-old European Junior champion from Aix-en-Provence 9-6, 8-10, 9-5, 9-0. In a match which will ensure the first Pakistani finalist since2004, Mehboob - in his maiden appearance in the event - will now take on compatriot Aamir Atlas Khan, the event’’s firm favourite after reaching the semi-finals both in 2004 and 2006. The other semi-final will pitch local hero Nicolas Mueller, the third seed, against Egypt ‘’s Mohamed El Shorbagy, the No2 seed.
