LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that it is his faith that no country could make progress without free judiciary and provision of timely justice to the masses. He asked members of American Business Council of Pakistan to come forward and make investment in the country and Punjab Government will provide all out facilities to them. This was stated by him while addressing the luncheon hosted inhonor of members of American Business Council of Pakistan, here Saturday. Principal Officer of American Consulate, Brian D. Hunt, MNA Khawaja Asif, Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Kh.Haroon, Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan, Chairman PD, Secretary Industry and Secretary Information Technology were also present on this occasion. Addressing the meeting, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that during his exile in Saudi Arabia and UK, he often thought that on his return to the country free judiciary would be his top priority. He said he believes that no sector could progress without free judiciary. He said that the system has been devastated during the last eight years. He said that after assuming the charge of his office he personally observed during his visit to various areas of the province that education and health sector as well as law order situation are deteriorated.

MULTAN: Shopkeepers of Firdaus Market, DeraAdda, dealing in CDs, have received letters by post purportedlyfrom Tehrik Taliban Multan, threatening them of dire consequences in case they do not wind up their “un-Islamic” business forthwith. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cantt, Muhammad Ashfaq Gujjar, told media that the letters bear the stamp of GPO Multan which indicates that these have been written and posted locally. He said that the traders of Firdaus Market will be provided with two gunmen from the police and plain clothed police personnel will also be deputed from tomorrow to keep a vigil on suspects. The DSP said that the Taliban, through their letters written to several shopkeepers of the same market, have asked the traders to give up this business, “Otherwise, they would be dealt with accordingly”. He said the businessmen have been asked to appoint their own gunmen also for their safety and for that of their CD stocks. Abdul Hakim, general secretary of the Firdaus Market traders association, told media that after the receipt of threatening letters from Taliban they are too much scared. He appealed to the city police officer (CPO) and regional police officer (RPO) to take notice of these threatening letters and provide the shopkeepers complete security.

KARACHI: Zafar Ahmed, Acting Chairman, SITE Association of Industry has expressed concern on the transporters” strike. He said export activity has come to standstill as goods transporters are on strike. Since Monday no movement of goods from factory to the port has taken place resulting in delay in shipment of exporter. Simultaneously, no import movement from port is taking place, which will result in port congestion and heavy demurrage, he added. Pakistan Textile Sector is already struggling to increase export but these strikes are causing great damage to exporters. Goods, which will be missing their vessels due to this strike, would need to be aired by exporters in order to service the customer resulting in loss of exporters as well as foreign exchange that is in billions. He appealed to Prime Minister of Pakistan. Federal Finance Minister, Governor of Sindh, Chief Minister Sindh and all the relevant authorities to look into this matter and solve the problem urgently to save their nation from another big disaster.

ISLAMABAD: In Bajaur Agency, ten militants have been killed in an ongoing operation of security forces against the extremists. According to official sources, the security forces hit hideouts of militants in Tangkhatta, Kiralla and Mullakili areas by gunship helicopters, artillery and mortar fire.Meanwhile, five persons were killed and six others were injured when a shell landed at a house in Khar, the Agency Headquarter of Bajaur Saturday.

NEW YORK: Swiss superstar Roger Federer may have lost his top seeding but don”t think for a minute he doesn”t have a trump card up his sleeve at the US Open. Federer, who surrendered his world number one ranking to Rafael Nadal on Monday, is the four-time defending champion in the final Grand Slam of the season which begins Monday. “I know how to enter Grand Slams,” second-seeded Federer said Saturday. “I know how to enter the US Open and what it takes to win. That’’s a huge advantage I have. “I come here as the defending champion so I always have great feelings about this place.” Federer, who turned 27 earlier this month, said he will draw on his enormous success here in the past to salvage something of what has been a disappointing season so far.Nadal has never made it past the quarter-finals at the US Open and goes into the major as the top seed for the first time in his career. “I believe it is an advantage if you know how to win a US Open,” Federer said. “It is a tough tournament to win. “Rafa has never been beyond the fourth round so that is definitely the advantage that I carry.” Federer says not being the top seed takes some of the pressure off him. His disappointing year was underscored when he lost the number one ranking which he had held for a record 237 weeks. “For five years I was expected to win every tournament,” Federer said. “So now it changes a little bit.
