KESC wins Karachi Gymkhana Twenty20 Cup Champ

KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) won the 23rd Karachi Gymkhana Twenty20 Ramzan Cricket Tournament for State Life Cup with an emphatic 59 runs victory over Tapal Cricket Club in the final at KG Ground on Monday. Against the expectations, the final turned out be one-sided affair as put to bat first, KESC posted 193 for four wickets in 25 overs. Tapal CC in reply were bowled out for 134 in 18.4 over. Beaming KESC skipper Javed Mansoor received the glittering trophy and handsome cash prize of Rs.200,2000 from Chief Guest Chairman State Life Insurance Corporation Shahid Aziz Siddiqui while Tapal CC Captain Ahmed Zeehan Malik collected runners-up trophy and purse of Rs.100,000. Pakistan wicket-keeper/batsman Sarfraz Ahmed maintained his excellent form with the bat and his dashing 37-ball knock of 67 runs with nine boundaries lifted KESC to 193 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Daniyal Ahsan smashed a brace of 6s and one boundary in his unbeaten 48 off 32 balls, adding 92-run for the third wicket with Sarfraz to setup the momentum for a healthy score. Rameez Raja hit four boundaries in his 23 and Javed Mansoor contributed 21 each with one six and one four. Off-spinner Mansoor Baig was most successful bowler with two wickets for 29 runs. Tapal CC playing without Shahid Afridi spun out for 134 against spinners trio of Shahzaib Khan, Noman Alvi and Misbah Khan. Leg-spinner Shahzaib captured four wickets for 22 runs. Left arm spinner Noman Alvi claimed three wickets for 33 runs and off-spin Misbah Khan claimed two wickets for 23 runs.

PESHAWAR: NWFP senior minister, Bashir Bilour has announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the province tomorrow on Wednesday October 1, according to Geo News.Earlier, zonal Ruet-i-Hilal committee of Peshawar said it received no evidence of moon sighting in NWFP. Eid-ul-Fitr being celebrated today

KARACHI: The moon of Shawal 1, 1429 has been sighted in the country, so Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated today (Wednesday) with traditional zeal and fervour, Ruet-i-Hilal committee (Central Moon Sighting Committee) announced here on late Tuesday. Addressing a press conference, Chairman of the committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman said that the committee received the authentic evidence of moon sighting from many parts of the country. Special arrangements were made to facilitate the committee members to gather information about moon sighting from all across the country. The representatives of relevant departments including Meteorological department and media persons were also present on the occasion. Muneeb-ur-Rehman said that after receiving reports from zonal Ruet-i-Hilal committees of Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, and Peshawar, it was unanimously decided that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on Wednesday October 1. Later, the committee members prayed for the prosperity and progress of the country.
