Mexican jail riots leave 23 dead

MEXICO CITY: At least 23 people have been killed in ongoing riots at a prison in Mexico. According to a Human Right Inspector, riots set off by the death of a prisoner, allegedly at the hands of prison guards.The death toll has risen to 23 in ongoing riots in Tijuana jail while another 12 people were injured when violence broke out at the La Mesa prison in Tijuana, near the US border. Family members were quoted as saying inmates were protesting at their treatment since a riot on Sunday that led to at least three inmates” deaths. The jail authorities said they had regained control of the prison after shifting about 200 inmates to other jails following Wednesday’’s riot.

Traffic accidents claim two lives in Karachi

KARACHI: Two people were killed in traffic accidents in various parts of Karachi here on Friday.According to police, 30-year-old Ameer Ali, hit by a speeding truck, died on the spot. The deceased was resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. In an other incident, a 35-year-old Shahbaz died after being hit by a truck in Liyari. He was resident of Bahar colony. Both bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital for autopsy.

Teenager dies of electrocution in Karachi

KARACHI: A 17-year-old girl died after coming into contact with electric cables at Baldia town in Karachi on Friday.According to sources, resident of Unit No 12 in Baldia town, Nazia is believed to have died of injuries after coming into contact with electric wires laid on grounds near her home.The dead body has been shifted to hospital for autopsy.
