Hearing delay: Asif’’s lawyer miffed with IPL

KARACHI: Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif’’s lawyer on Friday accused the Indian Premier League’’s drugs inquiry tribunal of unnecessarily delaying the hearing into the pacer dope violation case. Asif was due to appear before the drugs inquiry tribunal to plead his case after both his ”A” and ”B” samples tested positive for a banned substance. The tribunal had earlier given a date in August for the hearing but Asif could not attend that time due to shortage of time to complete travel formalities. “I can”t understand why they are delaying the hearing. At one time they (tribunal) was keen on having a hearing as soon as possible but now we are not getting a new date from them,” Asif’’s lawyer Shahid Karim said. Asif’’s first test came positive during the IPL semi-finals, while his ”B” sample test was carried out in an accredited laboratory of the World Anti-Doping Agency in Geneva last month. However, the quantity of the banned substance in both tests differed, prompting the pacer and his lawyer to say they could win the case on technical grounds. Karim said he had completed all documentation for the case.
