ISLAMABAD: The Country’’s rice exports have surged to a staggering 562 million dollars this month, according to Mian Muhammad Azhar, the Chairman of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan.REAP chairman speaking to Geo News said, that in September alone 0.2 MN Metric tones of basmati rice was exported with an average value of 1,460 dollars a tone compared to 667 dollars last year.Meanwhile, the sale of non-basmati rice was reported at 0.3 MN metric tones at 772 dollars a tone in comparison with 370 dollars previously.Major contributors to this profit are a bumper crop this year-touching 7 million tones, effective marketing strategy and the - believe it or not - the devaluing value of rupee.

TEHRAN: Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossiein Nozari said on Saturday that a price under 100 dollars for a barrel of crude oil is “unsuitable.” “An oil price of less than 100 dollars is unsuitable for anyone, either for producers or for consumers,” Nozari told reporters on the sidelines of a gas export conference. The minister did not elaborate any further. “Unfortunately despite decrease in oil prices we have not seen any signs of a decrease in the costs” of oil production, he added. Asked for a forecast on prices, he said there had recently been such wild fluctuations that “five to 10 dollars up or down can not be analysed.” Nozari blamed the current economic crisis in the United States and its effect on Europe for the fluctuations. Oil prices closed little changed on Friday after the US Congress approved a 700-billion-dollar bailout plan for the financial sector. New York’’s main contract, light sweet crude for November delivery, closed nine cents lower at 93.88 dollars a barrel. It finished the week down 13 dollars. Prices have plummeted from record highs above 147 dollars in July. There have been worries that the slowing global economy would reduce demand for crude, and data published on Friday underscored that.
