Oil prices continue lower

SINGAPORE: Oil prices continued lower Thursday on fears of slowing world energy demand despite government efforts to bail out the ailing global financial system, analysts said.New York’’s main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in November, fell 63 cents to 88.32 dollars a barrel after a drop of 1.11 dollars to 88.95 dollars Wednesday at the New York Mercantile Exchange.Brent North Sea crude for November dropped 46 cents to 83.90 dollars a barrel on top of a 30-cent fall to 84.36 dollars Wednesday in London.Oil prices have already plunged from record highs above 147 dollars, reached in July, because of demand worries, dealers said. Prices have continued to fall despite measures including a US government plan to buy up to 700 billion dollars worth of tainted mortgage-related assets at the root of the global crisis.On Wednesday Britain said it would make 50 billion pounds (87 billion dollars) of taxpayers” money available to buy shares in banks, providing them with fresh capital in a bid to prevent a banking system collapse.

Portfolios of Naveed Qamar, Qamar Kaira changed

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday reallocated portfolios of Federal Ministers Syed Naveed Qamar and Qamar Zaman Kaira. According to a notification issued by Cabinet Division,Syed Naveed Qamar has been allocated Ministry of Shipping with additional charge of Ministry of Privatization. Qamar Zaman Kaira has been given the charge of Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas with additional charge of Ministry of Information Technology.

Over 200 race-crazier held during last week

ISLAMABAD: As many as 1000 motorcyclists were fined over Rs. 3,00,000 while more than 184 motorcycles and 16 cars were impounded and their drivers arrested for alleged involvement in one wheeling and car racing during the last seven days, the police sources said. According to the details, eight special squads have been constituted to prevent one wheeling and car racing on 7th and 9th Avenues, Margallah Road, Faizabad Expressway, Murree Road, Rawal Dam Chowk which are regularly conducting the patrolling in these areas to curb this racing trend. SSP Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Muhammad Zubair Hashmi stressed upon the parents to play their effective role and refrain their children from the dangerous game of one wheeling and racing otherwise ITP would take stern action against them. The sources said that the campaign was launched especially on Eid occasion which would further continue to curb the road stunts. The SSP Traffic said that such steps are being taken to provide safety to the citizens as the above violations caused to the loss of precious lives.

Clashes continue in Pewar

PESHAWAR: Despite announcement of ceasefire by warring tribes, clashes continued in Pewar area of Kurram Agency on Thursday. According to sources, clashes continued in Pewar despite the fact that two sides had announced ceasefire. Both sides used heavy and automated weapons in fighting. Meanwhile, security forces also bombed various positions of attackers. However, there was no report of any causality. More than 1500 people have been killed and about 5000 others wounded during two-year clashes in the agency.
