Benazir Bhutto Squash Complex inaugurated in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The Benazir Bhutto Squash Complex, consists of five courts in the sports complex Rawalpindi, was inaugurated on Monday.Federal Minister for Water and Electricity Raja Pervez Ashraf inaugurated the Squash Complex after which the last match of the qualifying round in the Pakistan Open Squash Championship. The match was played between Danish Atlas of Pakistan and Azan Ashraf of Malaysia and Danish Atlas won the match and has been placed in the main round. On this occasion, president Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Air Marshall Tanvir Mehmood presented a souvenir to the chief guest.Federal minister Raja Pervez Musharraf announced a grant of Rs 100,000 for the complex and also announced that the government would bear all electricity expenses.

Asia stocks lackluster

TOKYO: Asian stock markets were lackluster Tuesday after weakness on Wall Street, as concerns about the global economy sapped enthusiasm over China’’s nearly $600 billion package to boost growth. Tokyo’’s Nikkei 225 index was down 45.23 points, or 0.5 percent, to 9036.20 after initially slipping 3.3 percent. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng benchmark was 0.6 percent lower at 14,660.74 points. Australia’’s benchmark fell 2.7 percent while markets in Singapore and South Korea eked out slim gains. The Shanghai Composite index, down early in the session, ticked up about 0.4 percent after figures showed the country’’s inflation rate eased further last month.Regional equities were up sharply Monday on hopes that China’’s 4trillion yuan ($586 billion) stimulus package, announced Sunday, would keep its economic growth from falling too fast and help fuel demand for exports from other Asian countries.

Federer faces shock defeat in ATP Cup

Munaf Kalia physical remanded to FIA till Nov 17

KARACHI: Director of Khanani and Kalia Group Munaf Kalia, accused of being involved in the scandal of illegally transferring billions of dollars abroad was handed over on physical remand to FIA by local court today (Tuesday).Munaf Kalia was presented in the court of Special Civil Judge Fasial Jameel. Local court handed over Munaf Kalia to FIA on physical remand till November 17. Strict security measures were taken on this occasion and media was not allowed within court premises. Meanwhile, overnight raids were carried out to capture people involved in the scandal of illegal money transfer, however, no arrest was confirmed.
