Operations to resume at Gwadar Port today

KARACHI: Operations would resume at Gwadar Port today (Sunday) on the arrival of the ship carrying 30,000 tonnes urea consignment, it is learnt. According to detail, the ship named MV Charlotte is scheduled to arrive at 3.30 pm which will be the second commercial operation at Gwadar Port after it has initiated its operation earlier. Besides, two more ships will be anchored on the next subsequent days as per programme carrying urea consignments of 25,000 tonne each. Handling of shipment will be carried out with 4,000 tonnes consignment daily that will be continuing in the next weak. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will attend the inauguration ceremony at the port.

PM expresses grief over loss of lives in Ghakar Plaza incident

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and property due to collapse of Ghakar Plaza. On the directive of the Prime Minister, the federal government rescue agencies including National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) undertook intensive rescue operation to save precious human lives by extricating those trapped in the rubble. Two helicopters were also provided to take part in the rescue operation. The Prime Minister also lauded the exemplary courage and valour of the rescue workers who saved many human lives by putting their own lives in danger in their efforts to extinguish the fire. The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to immediately investigate the cause of the incident.

Private-public partnership vital to reduce poverty: Zardari

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that concrete steps should be taken for poverty reduction through private-public partnership and NGOs at union council level and all the recommendations of the concerned committees in this regard will be forwarded to the government for implementation. The President welcomed the participants of the meeting and said that this was the first interactive meeting in the presidency which was also attended by civil society organizations along with the government departments to benefit from the input of civil society organizations. He made these remarks during a presentation by Task Force of Poverty Reduction Social Sectors on Women empowerment at Aiwan-e-Sadr Islamabad. The meeting was informed that emergency relief camp of BISP for FATA displaced families has already been launched. Some camps will be setup in Balochistan for earthquake affectees in the first week of January. BISP is holding national survey through development partners to collect accurate data of deserving families for permanent income support. The meeting was attended by Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shaukat Tarin, Advisor to Prime Minister for Finance, Farzana Raja, Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program and other concerned officials.

Gwadar Port: Govt. to review deal with Singaporean company
