Pakistan Releases Sketches of Lahore Gunmen, Arrests Suspects (Bloomberg)

March 6 (Bloomberg) — Pakistan issued sketches of four men wanted over the terrorist attack on Sri Lanka’s cricket team in Lahore three days ago as Punjab’s provincial governor said investigators made arrests in the city.

NBP to install ATMs in army garrisons

KARACHI: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Pakistan Army on Thursday signed a deal under which, NBP will install Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in all army garrisons across country.According to NBP statement released here, besides army men civilians will also be facilitated by these ATMs as machines will be open for all and sundry to withdraw money round the clock.After the completion of ATMs project over 400,000 army officials will be able to use ATMs across country, it said.President NBP Syed Ali Raza and Major General Pakistan army Niaz Kosar and other officials were also present on the occasion of signing ATM project.

Govt-run banks raise interest rates

KARACHI: Banks working under government here have announced increase in interest rates on Thursday raising the total interest rate of banking system by 1.02 per cent.According to Center bank statistics the average interest rate of bank reached 15.3 per cent in January 2009 while it was standing at 14.3 per cent in December 2008.Government-run banks were lagging behind all private banks in terms of interest rates for their account holders as they deposited 6.5 per cent interest rate in January 2009 while foreign banks paid 7.55 interest rate leading all other banks in market.

KSE closes on negative note

KARACHI: Bears knocked down bulls at Karachi Stock Exchange on Thursday, bringing the benchmark KSE-100 Index down by 27 points to 5,788.Buying in the early hours gave the share market a positive start but later profit taking eroded the gains, pulling it to the present level.Trade volume was recorded at 140 million shares. OGDC was the volume leader which lost paisas 4 to close at Rs56.96.Market analysts see resistance at 5,800 level in the coming sessions.

Pak to be made leading shipbuilding country in region: Jatoi
