First phase of repatriation: 180 families reach Swat

PESHAWAR: ISLAMABAD: In the first phase of IDPs repatriation convoys consisting of 149 families from Jelozai camp and 31 families from Charsadda left Landakai area of Swat for Barikot under strict security.

In-charge Jelozai camp Tahir Orakzai told Geo News that 733 people of 149 families set off for Barikot from Landakai area on the first day of the repatriation process.

The convoy was led and followed by security forces? vehicles while aerial surveillance through helicopter was also undertaken.

There was a complete curfew on the routes of the IDPs convoys.

In Charsadda In-charge of Palosa camp Zaigham Khan told Geo News that 31 families comprising 160 individuals were sent home to Swat.

Prior to departure, IDPs staged a protest for not receiving cash and refused to return home. However, they later agreed after negotiations.

Malakand IDPs? repatriation underway

PESHAWAR: The repatriation of Malakand IDPs? is going on from Charsadda and Noshera.

Curfew remained imposed in Malakand and Swat during repatriation process. The government has divided repatriation process in three phases.

In the first phase, displaced persons returning back to their areas from Salim Sugar Mills camp, Palosa camp Charsadda and Jalzai camp Noshera. The government has assigned concerned districts to make arrangements for the return of IDPs. Large number of vehicles has been arranged for the affectees. Seven to eight families will be accommodated in each vehicle whereas security,ambulance, emergency health services and documentation facilities also made available for the IDPs.

11 to 17 hour load-shedding across Punjab

LAHORE: There is no let up in the load-shedding across Punjab including Lahore. Cities have to go without power for up to 11 hours per day while the load-shedding duration for villages is up to 17 hours.

PEPCO had claimed that power situation will improve once supply of 220 MW resumes from Mangla Dam. But the situation continues to remain grim following restoration of 220 MW, breaking all records of load-shedding in country?s history.

The situation could not be brought under control despite protests staged by citizens and traders.

11 killed, over 120 hurt in Mian Channu blast

KHANIWAL: Eleven people were killed and over 120 injured when explosives went off in a house in Mian Channu earlier on Monday.

The power blast also caused damage to a number of houses in the surrounding area.

Police has recovered a rocket launcher, hand grenade and suicide jacket and arrested three persons including the owner of the house Master Riaz Ali.

According to sources, the explosion occurred in a house of Hafiz Riaz Ali located in Chak No. 129/15 in Mian Channu where children were imparted education.

A number of houses collapsed with the impact of the blast and many people are still trapped under the debris. Rescue and relief activities are underway in the affected area.

M.S. of Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Dr. Naeem Saddiq said nine people were killed on the spot including seven children, a female and man.

The blast left an eight feet deep crater.

According to DPO Kamran Khan, the blast ripped through Master Riaz?s House where children were taught Qur?an . It appears that the explosives were kept inside the house, he added.
