PESHAWAR: EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana has said the role of Pakistan, especially its government, people and armed forces in fight against terror was highly commendable and has no match in the world’’s history.

To meet the post operation situation in Malakand Division, the European Union has provided 150 million Euros for relief of the displaced persons and would continue its support in future as well.

Talking to newsmen after visiting Jalozai Refugee Camp in Nowshera District which he visited along with three other ambassadors of EU, the visiting European Union official said the world community wanted honorable and dignified return of displaced persons of Malakand division to their homes.

During his detailed visit of the camp he also met with the displaced persons and enquired about their health and the facilities available to them at the camp.

Solana said EU and the world siding with Pakistan in these difficult times when the country was confronting the challenge of militancy.He said that he would brief the EU in depth about his observations and what he saw at the camp.

“I don”t find the word to pay gratitude to the Pakistan armed forces for its role in war against terror”, he told the mediamen. He said that the EU and other countries would have to support the government of Pakistan in reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affectees of the militancy.

The importance of his visit to Pakistan could be gauged from the fact that he personally visited the relief camp and reviewed the arrangements.

To a question, Mr. Javier Solana said he would seek more funds for these IDPs at the coming donors meeting to be held in Istanbul Turkey convened by Friends of Democratic Pakistan.

The European Union, UNO and Islamic countries should rise to the occasion and help out Pakistan in reconstruction and rehabilitation of the IDPs. Earlier Chief of Special Support Group Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmed briefed the EU foreign policy chief about the matters relating to rehabilitation of the displaced persons at the Army Field Hospital in Jalozai camp.

General Nadeem informed that as per the data provided by the NADRA, 323000 families displaced due to the operation of whom 141000 families residing in the camps, 119000 families put up in the schools and the rest moved to Punjab and Sindh Provinces.

He told the EU delegation that the government required Rs.2.5 billion US dollars to meet the expenditures to be incurred on the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in Malakand Division. He appealed to the donors for provision of heavy machinery, medicines etc.

He said the returning IDPs would be given six months ration and added that up till now over 100,000 have embarked on return journey which constitutes 33 percent of the total displacement. In Waziristan, he said, so far 60000 people have been displaced due to the operation.

SWAT; Security forces carried out search and clearance operations in different areas of Swat and Malakand during the last 24 hours.

According to ISPR, security forces conducted search and clearance operation at Talgai near Madyan areas of Swat and apprehended 2 wanted terrorists Fazal -e- Haq and Khair ul Ghafoor.

Security forces conducted search operation at Mano Derai near Piochar and recovered 17 boxes of ammunition of various calibres and 2 walkie talkie sets.

Security forces confiscated 1 Potohar jeep fully prepared for suicidal attack, 2 prepared cylinder IEDs, 1 suicide jacket during clearance operation at Matta.

Search operation at village Gul Shah near Bar Durshkhela, Tatal and Mria Mai led to exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists. Two terrorists commanders Taj alias Zarqavi and Commander Zulqarnain were killed. A machine gun alongwith 3 magazines, one 30 bore Pistol, and a bandolier were recovered.

Clearance operations were conducted at Mira Banda, Dakku Banda, Kund Banda, Pir Patai Banda and Kamyari Banda, Pinorai Banda and Chur Banda in which commander Akbar?s house was destroyed while terrorists commander Hamood was apprehended at Dardial alongwith 2 Parados.

Security forces conducted search and clearance operation at Kamyrai near Dardial. During exchange of fire with terrorists, Major Zahid embraced Shahadat. Reportedly 12 terrorists were killed in exchange of fire with Security Forces.

Chardy battles to maiden title in Stuttgart

STUTTGART, Germany: France’’s Jeremy Chardy rallied from a set down against fourth seed Victor Hanescu of Romania to claim his maiden title at the ATP tournament here on Sunday.
The 22-year-old former Wimbledon junior champion won through 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to claim the 71,700 euro prize and become the first Frenchman to win in Stuttgart since Henri Leconte in 1984.
Hanescu took the first set with breaks in the second and sixth games.
In the second set, Chardy sealed a service break in the sixth game. But the Frenchman ran through the 31-minute set and rushed to a 4-0 lead in the third.
The Romanian fought back with breaks in a seven-minute sixth game, saving two break points in the next game to trail 3-4.
Hanescu was unable to convert two break point opportunities in the eighth game. Chardy sprang into life to clinch a fourth service break for victory in one hour and 49 minutes.
