Impressive trade activity at KSE this week

KARACHI: Foreign portfolio investment at Karachi Stock Exchange and upgradation of Pakistan?s credit rating by international agencies pushed the benchmark KSE-100 Index beyond the psychological barrier of 9000 level for the first time in the last nine months.

The trade began this week at the stock market with positive momentum which gained further strength towards the end of the week. The major Index closed this week with a huge gain of 462 points at 9003.

The discovery of new oil reserves in the country and investment by foreigners fueled major investment in energy and banking stocks.

The average volume stood at 240 million shares this week.

KSE-30 Index surged by 464 points to finish the week at 8651.

People paying cost of corruption in Pakistan: Imran

KARACHI: Chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan has said that the present government has failed to deliver and mid-term elections are imminent.

Addressing an Iftar-dinner here on Saturday, Imran Khan said it is the people of Pakistan who have to pay the cost of all the corruption in the country.

The internal debt has reached 0.4 trillion and foreign one to 52 billion dollars, he pointed out.

Imran Khan said the biggest problem of Pakistan is that there is different law for a small time defaulter while an NRO for big wigs.

He said history is testimony to the fact that a military operation in the country has always contributed to the complications.

Manzoor Wattoo says ?don?t own any sugar mill?

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Industries and Production Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo Saturday said he or any of his relative does not own any sugar mill and suggested that the Prime Minister should resolve the issue by calling all the sugar mill owners.

Addressing a press conference here, the Federal Minister said it is out of the question not to carry out the order of the court.

He said the government is chalking out a long-term strategy in connection with the sugar supply which will be announced soon.

Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said there is no shortage of sugar in the country. The sugar mills have 1.2 million tones sugar, he pointed out.

President approves induction of 13 judges

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointments of two new judges in the Supreme Court (SC), and 11 additional judges in Peshawar and Balochistan high courts.

According to presidential spokespman, Justice Khalji Aarif Hussain and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffri will serve as SC judges, while additional judges appointed in Peshawar High Court include Abdul Aziz Kundi, Fassih-ul-Malik, Liaquat Ali Shah, Mazhar Alam Mana Khel, Attaulla Khan, Mohammad Safdar Khan and Mufftaudin.

Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Mrs Tahira Safdar, Mohammad Noor Muskan Zai and Ghulam Mustafa Mengal have been inducted in Balochistan High Court as additional judges.

The spokesperson said President approved these appointments on Prime Minister?s advice and in the light of the recommendations of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
