A five-wicket bag from Daryl Tuffey has failed to lift New Zealand to victory in a practice 50-over cricket match against Sri Lanka A in Colombo.

The Black Caps lost by 61 runs in what was a warm-up game for the tri-series starting later this week.

Daryl Tuffey took five wickets for 53 runs, helping to dismiss Sri Lanka A for 234 in the 48th over, but in reply New Zealand was all out for 173 in the 42nd over. Jacob Oram made 39 and stand-in skipper Brendon McCullum 34.

The Black Caps play their first match in the tri-series tomorrow against Sri Lanka, then meet India on Friday.

33 more extremists killed in KA operation

BARA: The security forces Sunday killed 33 extremists during the ongoing operation in Khyber Agency; while, at least two hideouts and six vehicles of extremists have been destroyed in Tarkhokas Camp and Naray Baba.

According to FC Media Cell, the security forces razed down 15 houses of important extremist commanders in Tehsil Bara.

According to Media Cell, 33 extremists were killed and nine others arrested. In Jamrud also, the forces recovering two abductees, apprehended three kidnappers.

Meantime, Political Administration tabled a few conditions to the veterans of Khyber Agency for ceasefire. These conditions include the custody of 68 people, guarantee of Rs60 million and ban on drug smuggling, arms brandishing and movements of non-custom paid vehicles within the agency.

The new demands include the condition that Rs30 million should be paid as fine for reneging on past agreements.

Younis hopes to reach Champions Trophy final

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket team captain Younis Khan and coach Intikhab Alam Sunday said the fielding has been the focal point during the national camp, which will help Pakistan boost their performance in Champions Trophy.

They hoped if the players employed their full potential, Pakistan can qualify for the final.

Besides, former test cricketer Jalalud Din said he has a lot of hopes pinned on Pakistani team in Champions Trophy; however, batting line will have to put up a great show for a convincing win.

KARACHI: Faisalabad, Larkana and Lahore won their matches while the match between Karachi and Sialkot ended in a draw in the Junior Super Hockey League here at the Hockey Club of Pakistan stadium.

Faisalabad defeated Islamabad 2-1. Taufiq and Hasan scored one goal each for Faislabad while Khalid made the solitary goal for Islamabad.

The match between Karachi and Sialkot proved interesting and both teams continuously attacked each other as the match ended in a draw 3-3.

For Karachi, Al-e-Imran, Zubair Ahmed and Mohammad Ali netted one goal each while Khalid, Adnan and Umair scored one goal each for Sialkot.

BHC?s 4 addl judges to take oath tomorrow

QUETTA: Oath-taking ceremony of four additional judges of the Balochistan High Court will be held on Monday at 9-00 am.

Thus, the number of judges in the Balochistan High Court will go up to five including chief justice while posts of six judges are still lying vacant in the High Court.

The High Court sources said that the President of Pakistan on recommendation of the chief justice had issued yesterday orders for the appointment of four additional judges at the Balochistan High Court. These judges are Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Tahira Safdar, Mohammad Noor Muskanzai and Ghulam Mustafa Mengal.

The new additional judges will take oath from chief justice Qazi Faiz Essa at the High court Building.

All the five PCO judges including former chief justice Amanullah Yasinzai of the Balochistan High Court had resigned on August 4 after which Qazi Faiz Essa was appointed chief justice.

However, four additional judges were appointed yesterday after one month.
