Drone strike kills 5 in Mirali

MIRANSHAH: Five foreigners were killed and 5 others injured in a drone strike in Tehsil Mirali, North Waziristan, sources said on Monday.

The predator launched two missiles targeting a house in Machikhel area of Mirali, killing five Uzbeks and injuring 5 others.

The missile hit the house of a tribesman Shah Mehmood when people present there were having Iftar.

Machikhel is mostly inhabited by foreigners.

Preparations underway in China to celebrate 60th anniversary

BEIJING: Tanks, armoured personnel carriers and rocket launchers rolled along a major Beijing boulevard Sunday in practice for a parade next month to mark China’’s 60th anniversary.

The main east-west artery of Beijing was closed for a rehearsal of the elaborate military parade planned for Oct. 1, when the People’’s Republic of China celebrates six decades since its founding. The parade is intended to highlight accomplishments China has made in its defence sector.

PML-N renews call for repeal of 17th amendment, Musharraf trial

MURREE: Pakistan Muslim League-N has renewed its demand for deletion of 17th amendment and putting former president Pervez Musharraf to trial under Article-6.

In a communiqué released after an important meeting here at Bhurban, the PML-N demanded of the PPP led government to waste no more time in restoring the Constitution to the position of pre-October 12, 1999.

It said all the scars faced by the country including that of Dhaka?s fall are result of the Constitutional violations, therefore, Pervez Musharraf?s prosecution should be undertaken without any delay.

PML-N also called for convening an all parties conference to address the issue of Balochistan.

It demanded of the government to conduct an investigation into sugar crisis and identify the people responsible for it.

The joint statement said the matter of rental power stations be brought before the Parliament.

Sufficient wheat in stock; 2 mln tonnes can be exported: Gondal

ISLAMABAD: Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture told the NA Standing Committee that two million tonnes wheat can be exported, as sufficient stock of the commodity is available in the country.

During the NA Standing Committee?s meeting here on Monday, Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal said sugar is also available in large quantity however the mills owners are exploiting the situation.

Javed Iqbal Warraich chaired meeting, which was informed by the Federal Secretary for Food and Agriculture that 9.5 million tonnes wheat is available in the country, while the quantity stood at only 3 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year.

Standing Committee expressed concern that the large quantity of wheat purchased recently could be wasted in the absence of proper arrangement for storage.
