RAWALPINDI: Former president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Munir A Malik has said that the judges of superior courts possess a certain type of mindset which has to be changed in order to ensure provision of justice in the country.
Addressing a program at Rawalpindi District Bar, Munir A Malik underlined need for a serious struggle to change the mindset of the judiciary.
He said a US judge of Supreme Court had rightly said that the it is people who protect the constitution and not the judges.
Munir A Malik warned that another attempt could be made to target judiciary. The lawyers will have to be ready to counter the elements in disguise trying to tarnish the image of the legal fraternity.

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has advised people to cut down use of sugar to force hoarders to bring down its prices.
He said this while addressing a seminar held here on the occasion of President Asif Ali Zardari?s completion of one year in office.
The Federal Minister said there is no shortage of sugar in the country and the crisis has been artificially created by mills owners and hoarders.
He said Punjab government will itself take action against the hoarders whose sugar the government has seized.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said difference between Pakistan People?s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-N are part of the democratic process.

ISLAMABAD: Former Test wicket-keeper Wasim Bari was Monday appointed Chief Operating Officer of Pakistan Cricket Board with immediate effect, it was officially learnt.
The Governing Board of PCB made this appointment ?through a resolution by circulation?, said a PCB Spokesman.Wasim Bari had been given acting charge of this post after the removal of another former Test cricketer Salim Altaf as COO of PCB.
Wasim Bari has said that he has accepted the position as challenge and that he will take everyone along.

KARACHI: The reduction in the discount rate by the State Bank of Pakistan led to the decrease in banking spread by 17 percent.
According to an analytical report, the commercial banks charged profit margin at 7.78 percent on loans which has now slashed to 7.35 percent.
The report says the difference between bank margin and profit given on deposits will shrink further if the SBP reduced the discount rate again in the coming days. The SBP has kept the profit on deposits fixed at 5 percent.
