ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has granted approval to the appointments of 12 additional judges of Lahore High Court (LHC).
In a statement issued here at the Presidency, the President has approved appointments of 12 additional judges including Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Najmul Hasan, Manzoor Ahmed Malik, Asad Munir, Tariq Javed, Aijaz-ul-Hasan, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari, Sardar Tariq Masood and Nasir Saeed Sheikh.
The President also okayed appointments of three district and session judges as additional judges of LHC. They are: Mansoor Akbar Kokab, Imtiaz Ahmed and Saghir Ahmed.
The President granted the above approval on the advice of the Prime Minister and recommendation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

KARACHI: The produce from cotton crop is likely to miss the target by 7 percent while the sugar production to remain lower than target by 17 percent in the next season.
According to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the government estimated target was 15 million bales of cotton from the next crop but due to virus concerns the expectation has now dropped to 14 million bales. The total cotton produce stood at 12.8 million bales in the previous season.
He sugar cane produce is expected to drop to 48 million tonnes in the next season which is 8 percent less compared to the previous season in which it stood at 52 million tonnes. The sugar cane produce hit a record in financial year 2007-08 in which the total quantity jumped to 64 million tonnes.
The Ministry is now expecting the total sugar production to stand at 3 million tones against the total annual requirement of 32 to 35 million tonnes.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that he participated in the talks which led to the safe exit of former president Pervez Musharraf.
Speaking at an Iftar-dinner hosted at the Presidency for media representatitives, the President said the local officials and foreign forces were part of the deal under which former president was provided a safe passage.
To a question, he said two international forces who have interests in this region acted as guarantors during talks for providing safe passage to Pervez Musharraf.
?All the stakeholders were on same page at the time of making the decision on providing safe exit to the former president Pervez Musharraf,? he said adding ?it was unanimously decided that now he (Pervez Musharraf) will play golf.?
Regarding corruption charges, President Zardari said all the ?stories of corruption? are part of a campaign of maligning the politicians.
He said no minus-one formula can meet success in the absence of a president like Farooq Leghari.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday expressed his shock and grief over the loss of precious lives in a stampede in Karachi and ordered a judicial probe.
The President directed the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah for a judicial enquiry into the tragic incident by a High Court judge that should submit its report within a week to fix responsibility.
The President took a serious note of the poor arrangements to manage huge crowds and said the local authorities should have undertaken measures to ensure that the distribution was smooth and safe.
The President expressed his deep grief over the killing of women who were killed in the stampede at a free distribution point at Khori garden in Karachi.
