Major power failure reported in interior Sindh

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has shut down the electricity of 17 districts in interior Sindh, Geo news reported.

The loadshedding occurred as at least twenty feeders have been tripped down, forcing HESCO officials to cut power supply to cities interior to Sindh, sources added.

Complicity of ministries responsible for sugar crisis: Khurram

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly?s Standing Committee on Trade Chairman Khurram Dastagir Thursday said sugar crisis was spawned in the country by collusion of Trade Ministry, Ministry of Industry and Production and sugar mills associations.

Talking to media after the NA?s standing committee?s meeting, Khurram said Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) was stopped, through complicity, from issuing a tender regarding sugar import on May 29, adding Trade Ministry, Ministry of Industry and Production wrote letters to the TCP to this effect.

He said the tender regarding sugar imports was to be issued in April 2009, which could not be issued as yet, adding the country faced sugar crisis, as its imports were stanched.
Khurram said the commodity was imported at a time when its prices burgeoned, which caused national exchequer a loss of Rs800 million.
