Common man?s quest for Rs.40/kg sugar still continues

KARACHI: The sugar millers have decided not to take notice of Supreme Court?s directives and orders of federal government as far as sell of sugar at Rs.40/kg is concern.

The provincial governments are completely failed to reduce the sugar price. The sugar is available in Karachi at Rs.48/kg, Rs.46 to 48/kg in Lahore whereas Peshawar and Quetta Rs.52/kg.

Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah has announced that sugar will be available at Rs.40/kg in the province from Tuesday. The violator will be punished three months jail and fine of Rs.5, 000.

District coordination officer of Karachi city government Javed Hanif Khan said all magistrates have been directed to make sure that sugar must be available at Rs.40/kg and violator will be punished.

On the other hand, general secretary of Karachi Retail grocers group Farid Qureishi said sugar had been purchased at higher rates and sell of sugar at Rs.40/kg could be possible only if it will available at Rs.38/kg in wholesale market.

Talking to newsmen Younis Khan said he did not receive any notice to appear before NA Standing Committee on Sports.

US will continue to cooperate with Pak: Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton termed dialogue with her Pakistani counterpart as positive.

Addressing a joint press conference in Washington Wednesday, Hillary Clinton said Kerry-Lugar bill will play a vital role in Pak-US relations.

?It is a very important bill which has been approved by Congress and Senate and Pakistan will be given non-military aid under the same.?

She further said the US will continue cooperation with Pakistan. We want to play our role to remove poverty and improve health and education sectors in Pakistan.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said a long-term Pak-US partnership will be established through Kerry-Lugar bill.

In the meeting many issues including successful operation in Swat and energy crisis faced by Pakistan were brought under discussion, he added.

UN to keep vital offices open in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD : The representative of the United Nations Tuesday said the UN is not dismantling the operations in Pakistan; only a few offices have temporarily been closed; however, important offices will remain open uninterruptedly.

Addressing a news conference here, the UN mouthpiece demanded the probe be undertaken about the uniformed man who lost his life in the blast at World Food Program, adding he hoped that the investigations would soon be completed.

He said they could shift into the Diplomatic Enclave, adding the UN cannot work like embassies, as it is the people?s organization not belonging to a any special country.

Package for Balochistan to be announced soon: Zardari

ISLAMABAD : President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday said the people of Balochistan were neglected in past; however, the present government is focusing on the political harmony, economic progress and law and order situation in the entire country.

Talking to a delegation headed by Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raeesani at President House, he said the government is committed to put an end to the sense of deprivation prevalent in Balochistan people and bringing them at par with the people in other parts of the country.

Zardari said Pakistan People?s Party (PPP) has asked for forgiveness for the wrongdoings done with the Balochistan people.

He said the parliamentary committee on Balochistan has finalized their recommendations and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would soon announce this package after consultation with all the political parties.

349 parliamentarians fail to submit details on assets: EC

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued list of as many as 349 parliamentarians who have been failed to submit their assets? details to commission, Geo news said on Tuesday.

Among those included in the list are 105 members National Assembly (NA), 11 Senators, 145 members Punjab assembly, 33 members NWFP and 20 belong to members Balochistan assembly, list said.

The list also includes four federal ministers including Federal Minister for Water and Electricity Raja Pervez Ashraf, Federal Minister for Population Welfare Firdous Aashiq Awan, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Manzoor Watto and federal Minister for Communication Arbab Alamgir.

According to the statement issued from EC, membership of those parliamentarians who have failed to submit details on their assets will be cancelled as early as October 15.
