LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister?s senior advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa Sunday said the projects of solar energy and wind power are being planned in various areas of Punjab, besides power generation.
He was presiding over the meeting of a committee established regarding searching for alternative energy sources in Punjab.
Sardar Zulfiqar said the government will begin new projects aimed at power production through coal, solar energy and wind power; this would generate additional resources.
Senior advisor said Iran also expressed interest in investing in energy sector in Punjab.
Sardar Khosa said the provincial government has decided to start vocational projects in collaboration with Toyota and other companies to help out poor people.

JEDDAH: Chairman King Faisal Research and Islamic Studies Center Prince Turki Al-Faisal has urged the US to extend its cooperation to Saudi Arabia and Pakistan for crushing Al-Qaeda.
In a column of Washington Post, Prince Turki Al-Faisal said the US should also obtain cooperation of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia and China with an aim to defeat Al-Qaeda.
He said Taliban should not be called terrorists, and called for holding meaningful dialogue with them.
Prince Turki Al-Faisal urged the need for giving proper shape to the Durand Line which lies between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
?Pressure should be exerted on Pakistan and India to resolve the Kashmir issue,? he said.

BEIJING: The final of the china Open Tennis Tournament will be played here today between Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland and Russia’’s Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Kuznetsova cruised to victory against Nadia Petrova, also Russian, 6-1, 6-3, in the semifinals on Saturday.
Petrova, 27, who defeated Serena Williams in the third round, fell quickly to Kuznetsova, 24, in the first set. Petrova’’s left leg appeared weak, preventing her from chasing the ball, and Kuznetsova easily won the set 6-1.
Before the start of the second set, a trainer was called to stretch Petrova’’s leg, and she appeared more mobile throughout the rest of the match. But Petrova’’s play was still sometimes sluggish, and she fell to Kuznetsova 6-3.
In the second semi-finals, Radwanska defeated Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-3.

WANA: The jets of Pakistani armed forces attacked in an area of South Waziristan Agency (SWA), killing at least 13 extremists, Geo News reported Sunday.
According to sources, the jets of Pak security forces pounded various hideouts of the extremists in Makeen and Ladha areas of SWA, killing 13 extremists.
Meantime, the surveillance planes are intermittently flying over various areas of North and South Waziristan.
Moreover, national lashkar destroyed three hideouts of the extremists in Lakki Marwat area of Shami Khel.

PESHAWAR: Two round matches of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy have been shifted from Peshawar to Rawalpindi and Islamabad due to suicide explosion here on Friday.
Following the bomb blast in Peshawar, an emergency meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board?s domestic wing was held at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
This has been decided in the meeting to shift the first two round matches of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy from Peshawar.
Now the match scheduled to be played between Peshawar and Karachi Bears at Peshawar from tomorrow will be held at the KRL Stadium Rawalpindi from October 11 to 14 while the second round match between Peshawar and Quetta will be played from October 16 to 19 at the National Cricket Ground Islamabad.
