FM Qureshi discusses KLB with Holbrooke

WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Tuesday met with U.S. Special Representative Richard Holbrooke and discussed Pakistan?s concerns over certain provisions of Kerry-Lugar economic assistance bill.

The top Pakistani diplomat, who is due to meet U.S. National Security Adviser James Jones, Senator John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Congressman Howard Berman, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said he is in Washington with a clear mandate to convey Pakistan?s perspective to the U.S. officials.

?I am meeting all of them to give perspective of Pakistan and its parliament,? Qureshi said in his brief remarks after holding ?frank and open? discussions with Holbrooke.

?I am here with a clear mandate— I am meeting all of them (the U.S. officials) to give perspective of Pakistan and its parliament— I shall explain to them and one has to be optimistic,? he stated.

The foreign minister?s visit takes place amidst parliamentary debate in Pakistan on some provisions of the Kerry-Lugar Bill, which are seen as impacting on the country?s sovereignty and national security.

Minister sports asks PCB not to accept Younis?s resignation

ISLAMABAD: Federal minister for sports Pir Aftab Shah Jilani said that the Pakistan Cricket Board should not approve the resignation of Younis Khan, captain Pakistan cricket team.

He said this while talking with media outside the Parliament House after captain Younis Khan and the PCB officials appeared before the National Assembly?s standing committee for sports.

Jilani said that the allegations of match fixing against the national team proved wrong.

He said that the ICC has also rejected the match fixing charges.

The minister sports said that players are usually very sensitive and their feelings should be respected.

He said that the PCB should not accept the resignation of Younis Khan.

7 ministers Azad Kashmir resign

MUZZAFARABAD: At least seven ministers Azad Kashmir have resigned from office and tendered their resignations to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Geo news reported Tuesday.

According to sources, the reason over which they resigned has yet to be ascertained while nominated minister for Muslim Conference showed media personnel ministers? resignations during the press conference here.

Those ministers resigned included Raja Muhammad Siddique, Noreen Arif, Raja Nisar, Raja Munsif Dad, Colonel Naseem, Syed Shaukat Ali, Sardar Naeem, Chaudhry Rukhsar.
