LAHORE: An 18-member Pakistan hockey team has been announced for the World Cup Qualifying Round here on Friday.
Zeeshan Ashraf will lead the team which includes all the four players who participated the European Hockey League.
President Pakistan Hockey Federation Qasim Zia, secretary Asif Bajwa and the selection committee reviewed the performance of the players in the trials held here at the National Hockey Stadium.
President International Hockey Federation Leandro Negre was also present on this occasion.
Pakistan team consists of Zeeshan Ashraf (captain), Mohammad Imran (vice-captain), Salman Akbar, Nasir Ahmed, Sohail Abbas, Mohammad Irfan, Waseem Ahmed, Sajjad Anwar, Fareed Ahmed, Mohammad Arshad, Rehan Butt, Shakeel Abbasi, Haseem Khan, Abbas Haider, Akhtar Ali, Waqas Sharif, Shafqat Rasool and Mohammad Zubair.
After participating in the trials, the players who played hockey league in Europe, will leave for Holland on Saturday night and later join the team in France for the Qualifying Round.
The World Cup Qualifying Round will be played from October 31 to November 8 at Lille in France where Pakistan will contest with japan, France, Italy, Russia and Poland.
The victorious team will be eligible to take part in the World Cup to be held in India next year.

ISLAMABAD : The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) discredited the government intervention over sugar issue, as according to the Commission, it will spoil the market system and the corruption is feared to be spawned by it.
The report, the CCP presented to the Supreme Court (SC), said the people related with the sugar business told the Commission that they have to pay various government departments while taking sugar cane from the field to the sugar mill.
According to the investigation, the average per kilo cost along with the taxes is Rs36.94 in Punjab, Rs33.47 in Sindh and Rs41.22 is the per kilo cost incurred on sugar production in the NWFP.
The CCP said in its report that the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) could not maintain the target regarding the stocks, which spurred the sugar shortage in the market.

KARACHI: Shaheed Benazir Bhuttu International Boxing Tournament will begin from January 9 in Karachi and 20-25 teams from foreign countries will participate in it.
The government of Pakistan has allowed to hold this event.
Addresssing at a press conference here at the National Coaching Centre on Friday, president Pakistan Boxing Federation Doda Khan Bhutto told that invitations of the international boxing tournament dedicated to Shaheed Mohatarma Benazir Bhutto have been sent to foreign teams.
He said that the tournament will cost Rs30 million and the Pakistan Sports Board has assured the special grant.
This event will be held from January 9 to 16 at the Expo Centre in Karachi.

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) stayed Karachi?s district government to receive infrastructure tax and set November 3 for further hearing of the petition against this tax, Geo News reported Friday.
The petitioner Syed Ashraf Hussain opined in the petition that City Government made it binding on all its departments not to sanction the transfer, sell or purchase of any property in Karachi, until the infrastructure tax is not paid against this property.
The petitioner?s counsel Syed Abdul Waheed Hussaini told the court that this tax is legally controversial and that such strict orders as these cannot be given regarding the issue being heard at the court.
The court issued the interim stay order and directed the various departments of the District Government and Government of Sindh to submit their response by November 3.
