PESHAWAR: The leader of banned Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi, Maulana Sufi Muhammad gets a month?s extension in his imprisonment.
DCO Peshawar Sahibzada Muhammad Anees told Geo News that Sufi Muhammad?s confinement has been extended by 30 days. The TNSM leader was arrested in August under MPO clause 3 due to security concerns.
Sahibzada Muhammad Anees said he issued the arrest warrants against Sufi Muhammad in August and, consequently, Maulana Sufi Muhammad along with his 3 sons was arrested from City Town locality in Peshawar.

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ijaz Butt said that if coach is not liked by the chairman PCB and the captain then he may be changed.
During a news conference here on Thursday, the chairman PCB said that the board is making efforts once again to send fast bowler Mohammad Asif with the national team to Dubai and he would be included in the team on getting the permission.
Ijaz Butt said that series with India is possible at any neutral venue. He would go to India on October 28 and meet Indian board and government officials.
He said that the members of the team management would be announced in a day or two as he could not do this due to his engagements.
Replying to a question, Ijaz Butt said that no body including the captain expressed any reservation on the management.

PESHAWAR: In view of the present security situation in Peshawar, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shifted four matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy first class tournament to other cities.
The PCB spokesman told that as per the new schedule, the match to be played between Peshawar and Hyderabad will now be played at Country Club Muridke on October 28-31, the Peshawar-Islamabad match will be played at the National Ground Islamabad on November 15-18, the Peshawar-Sialkot match will be played on November 21-24 at the Jinnah Stadium Sialkot and the match between Peshawar and Lahore Ravi will be played at the LCCA Ground Lahore on December 9-12.

ISLAMABAD: Gas supply has been suspended to 165 industrial units in October said Rashid Loan, MD of Sui Northern Gas Company.
Speaking at a media briefing after attending a meeting of Senate Standing Committee for Petroleum here Thursday, he said the suspension of gas supply to industrial units came sooner this year compared to last year?s gas load shedding which began in December.
MD SNGC said suspension of gas supply to fertilizer companies would have to be undertaken this year if Kohat fields failed to supply gas.
During the meeting, managing director OGDC, Zahid Hussein said that cases regarding 18 oil and gas exploration projects are under court trial which has been affecting the produce of 300 million MMBTU gas and 7,000 barrel oil per day.
He further said that Qadirpur and Sui fields are producing 1.65 billion MMBTU a day compared to 1.86 billion MMBTU per day last year.

A letter from British high commissioner has been sent to speaker NWFP assembly Karamat Chagharmatti, which contains written clarification that British PM Gordon Brown has not used the word ?terrorist? against Pakhtuns.
A clarification statement said that Pakistan and Britain are allies in war on terror. And that Britain has helped Malakand affectees through Friends of Pakistan forum.
The letter also highlighted that a large number of Pakhtuns are peacefully living in British society.
In its previous session, NWFP assembly had passed a resolution against British PM?s statement in which Gordon Brown declared Pakhtuns as ?terrorists?.

KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has requested OGRA to increase gas prices by 26 percent.
The request is made to OGRA in view of constantly rising oil prices in international market, sources said.
SSGC, in its request, suggested OGRA to increase gas prices by 9 percent from July 1, 2009, while 17 percent hike be undertaken from January 1, 2010.
It has been advised to adjust the proposed increase in bills with effect from July 1, 2009 in the bills to be issued in 2010, SSGC officials said.
OGRA is expected to review this request in November, sources said.
The gas prices were slashed in the country from July 2009 in the backdrop of tilt in the international oil prices witnessed during January to April 2009.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has called assurances from government organizations till tomorrow about the availability of sugar to domestic consumer at Rs. 38 to 40 per kilogram.
A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case of sugar prices. In his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar said Utility Stores have failed to provide inexpensive commodities to the consumers.
Acting Attorney General Shah Khawar in his arguments said that the government formulating short term and long term policies to resolve sugar crisis.
Chief Justice in his remarks during the hearing said the government should set up ration depots in low-income and rural areas to provide sugar on cheaper rates. Later, the hearing has been adjourned till tomorrow.
