ISLAMABAD: Former state minister and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) president in NWFP Engineer Ameer Maqam Friday revealed that it was decided in a deal entered with Pakistan People?s Party (PPP) under the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) that former President Gen (rtd) Pervez Musharraf would remain president for the next five years and Benazir Bhutto would be the premier of the country.
Talking to Geo News, he said under the NRO deal, Musharraf will ascend to the presidency as the civilian president for the next five years and Benazir Bhutto was decided to become the Prime Minister.
Responding a question, Maqam said he made the reservations over the NRO known to the president, saying, ?NRO would be your most grossest blunder.?
The PML-Q leader said the NRO was passed by overruling the proceedings in National Assembly?s Standing Committee; however, its apprehensions were not addressed and removed.

LAHORE: Information Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Ahsan Iqbal Friday said the government has no mettle to resolve all problems by putting up ?One Man Show?, adding therefore, the government needs to take national leaders in confidence over crucial matters.
He said this while talking to media on the book launching ceremony of renowned journalist Afzaal Rehan’’s “Jamhooriyat ya Aamriyat” (Democracy or Dictatorship) held at the Alhamra Hall.
The book launching ceremony was held under the auspices of the Liberal Human Forum. Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan chaired the ceremony.
Ahsan said the democracy in Pakistan is not in jeopardy, as there are forces like independent judiciary and democratic forces in the country which would not allow anyone to ambush on the helms of powers.
The government?s success are based on its performance, adding PML-N has taken oath to save democracy not to give indemnity to the inefficient performance of the government.
Ahsan Iqbal said the NRO is National Robbers Ordinance, which would be given tough resistance, adding Kerry-Lugar Bill was approved only after the green signal from the government and the PML-N has reservations over this Bill.

KARACHI: The sugar crisis continues all over the country, as people are deprived of sugar, as sugar mill owners have plainly refused to supply sugar on prescribed prices despite the government announcements.
In contrast to Supreme Court order, the government has apparently failed to prompt sugar mill owners to supply sugar at Rs.36 per kg to the wholesalers, whereas, shopkeepers and wholesalers have stopped buying sugar at higher prices in order to evade police raids and fines, which has created a severe dearth of sugar in the retail market.
The people are deprived of sugar supply regardless of 650, 00000 tons of sugar stocked in the TCP and sugar mill warehouses collectively.
Despite of huge sugar reserves, crisis persists in different cities of the country.
In some areas of Punjab sugar is hardly available at the price of Rs.100 per kg, whereas, in Lahore sugar has completely disappeared.
The sugar prices in NWFP has sky rocketed and yet sugar is hardly on sale at Rs.90 per kg.
Similarly, in Quetta, sugar is only available for Rs.40 per kg at the government set centers, but in retail markets the sugar is being sold at 48 to 50 rupees.
In Islamabad sugar is hardly available at Rs.48 per kg, where government has held several meetings with the sugar mill owners to ensure sugar supply at prescribed prices.

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) suggested 12 paisa to Rs2 to be added to the prices of petroleum products from November 1st to November 30, Geo News reported Friday.
The sources told Geo News that petrol price was proposed to go up by 50 paisa, hi-speed diesel by 12 paisa and kerosene oil was suggested to go up by 70 paisa.
According to the preliminary suggestion by the Ogra, the hike in price of light speed diesel has been shown to go up by Rs1.70/lit and hi-octane price has been shown to soar by Rs2/lit.
The Oil and Gas Ministry would send the summary of the Ogra to Finance Ministry. Then, the PM would be apprised of this summary.
The prices of petroleum products would be determined by October 31.

KARACHI: The local equities market remained in the grips of bears on Friday too with the benchmark KSE-100 Index further losing 17 points to peg at 9,151.
The share market began its activities in upbeat mode and at one stage the major Index was also witnessed at 9256 level. However, later selling in energy scrips led the to close in the red zone.
The market turnover was registered at 170 million shares.
TRG Pakistan was today?s star performer in terms of volume which gained paisas 14 to close at Rs2.59.
KSE-30 Index eased 30 points to finish the day at 9,653.

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Ports and Shipping Nabeel Gabol Friday termed National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) a dead horse and said attempts are being made to infuse life into its body.
Talking to media on the occasion of a meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, the NRO would not affect President Asif Ali Zardari, as he enjoys constitutional indemnity, adding Mian Nawaz Sharif, similarly, had tendered apology over the cases filed against President Zardari by Saifur Rehman.
Nabeel said former President Gen (rtd) Pervez Musharraf invited Benazir Bhutto for homecoming in order to protect the country and abolished the cases against them.
He further said the prevalent situation in the country is like the one in 1971, when General Yahya Khan invited Zulfiqar Bhutto to set up his government.
Responding a question, the state minister said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held meetings with President and Mian Nawaz Sharif over apprehensions over government toppling.
November is highly vital, as rafts of decisions are expected in the run of this month, he predicted.
