KARACHI: Heavy selling at the local equity market Monday pushed the benchmark KSE-100 Index to 8,872 level, showing a steep slide of 287 points.
The stock prices appeared volatile as the Index moved both sides of fence in the backdrop of political parties? differences on NRO and report of bomb blast in Rawalpindi. Observing caution, the investors opted for off loading their holdings which led the Index to plunge below 9,000 points to the current level.
The trade volume was recorded at 150 million shares today.
Jehangir Siddiqui Company was today?s volume leader, easing Rs1.75 to close at Rs33.35.
KSE-30 Index took a nose-dive of 347 points to finish the day at 9,315.

LONDON: MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has not advised the President to resign during his interview given to Dr. Shahid Masood, Mustafa Azizabadi, spokesman of Muttahida Qaumi Movement?s information wing, clarified Monday.
In a clarification issued from London, the spokesman said the interview?s audio is available in which MQM Chief has only commented on the present situation of the country.
He said it necessary to clarify that MQM Chief Altaf Hussain during the entire interview did not put forward any advice to President Asif Ali Zardari for tendering resignation.
Whatever Dr. Shahid Masood has reported in this regard must be based on his own sources.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday said the federal government gives special attention to the development of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and directed for early completion of all projects.
Talking to AJK Prime Minister Raja Mohammad Farooq Haider at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President called for prompt completion of matters relating reconstruction in earthquake-hit areas, Mangla Dam raising, rehabilitation of Mangla Dam affectees and development of new Mirpur city.
The President felicitated Raja Farooq Haider on his election as AJK Prime Minister and hoped that he would work with full dedication for the uplift of the people of AJK.
The AJK Prime Minister thanked the President for his active personal interest in development projects in AJK and assured that he would uphold the supremacy of merit, law and justice and would leave no stone unturned in the development of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

ISLAMABAD: Four ordinances passed in 2007 will be tabled in the National Assembly today, however; National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) has been omitted from presentation in the assembly despite being approved by the standing committee for law and justice.
National Assembly?s 17th session to be held this evening will deal with 4 ordinances passed by former president Pervez Musharraf in 2007 which include ERRA ordinance; Defense Housing Authority Islamabad Ordinance, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, and National Command and Authority ordinance.
These ordinances, after being reviewed in the Parliament, will be sent to the relevant standing committees.
Issuance of more than specified number of SIMs on a single National Identity card will be brought to the parliament?s attention, besides inclusion of QA round during the session.
The bill related to work place harassment of women will also be presented before parliament.

ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)?s Parliamentary leader Dr. Farooq Sattar in a meeting with Interior Minister Rehman Malik has conveyed his party?s decision to oppose National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) while disappointed parliamentarians of FATA have also decided to go against NRO.
Parliamentary leader Munir Orakzai, talking to media persons here at the Parliament House on Monday, said that FAT parliamentarians have made up decided to oppose NRO.
He said FATA MNA?s would not be attending tonight?s meeting to be held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The MQM members also held a meeting in the chairmanship of their Parliamentary leader Dr. Farooq Sattar. Describing the NRO as a discriminatory law, the meeting decided not to support it.
Dr. Sattar has conveyed his party?s decision to the Interior Minister Rehman Malik in a meeting.

LAHORE: Three policemen have been injured in a bomb blast at police check post Babu Sabu Interchange, Geo News reported Monday.
The blast took place when a white Suzuki Mehran rammed into the police check post, sources said.
Rescue teams have reached the blast site.
