ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has sent references against six judges of Lahore, Peshawar and Sindh high courts to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).
The judges against whom references have been filed include Lahore High Court?s Justice Syed Shabbar Raza, Justice Hamid Ali Shah, Justice Hasnat Ahmed Khan and Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah.
According to the Presidency, references have also been sent to SJC against Sindh High Court?s judge Justice Mrs. Yasmin Abbasi and Peshawar High Court?s Justice Jehanzeb Rahim.
These references have been filed on the recommendation of Chief Justice of Pakistan and advice of the Prime Minister, presidential spokesman said.

ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Quami Movement?s MNA Wasim Akhtar Thursday alleged that government is involved in firing on MQM?s candidates in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Speaking in Geo News program, Wasim Akhtar said election results are being manipulated, asking the President to intervene and bring a halt to, what he called, the rigging in the ongoing G-B polls so that derailment of democracy can be stopped.
He said it would be difficult for MQM to accept the results if what he called the rigging in Gilgit-Baltistan is not stopped.

DUBAI: New Zealand won the toss and put Pakistan into bat after their regular captain Daniel Vettori was ruled out with a shoulder problem in the first Twenty20 international here at the Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Brendon McCullum took over as captain. The Black Caps also had to sit Kyle Mills (shoulder) and James Frankin (back) out of the first match, while all-rounder Jacob Oram left for home to attend his child’’s birth.
The second Twenty20 match here will be played Friday.
Pakistan included opener Imran Nazir, and all-rounders Sohail Tanvir and Fawad Alam in the squad after losing the preceding three-match one-day series 2-1 earlier this week.
