Post polls festivities, protests continue in G-B

GILGIT: The winning candidates and their supporters are celebrating after Gilgit-Baltistan legislative elections while the workers of losers are protesting the results.

Deputy Commissioner Gilgit Asad Zamin has said that the situation is completely under control.

The unofficial results of 21 slots have come out after Thursday?s elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.

A large crowd of workers have assembled at the offices of the political parties and houses of the winning candidates in six districts ? Ghazar, Astore, Ganche, Diamir, Gilgit and Skardu. Sweets are being distributed amidst celebrations there.

On the other hand, protests are being staged by the workers of losing candidates on the alleged rigging in the polls.

Workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League-Q and an independent candidate staged a protest and a sit-in in Danyor area of Gilgit.

Police baton charged protesters at the office of a returning officer in Goharabad, Diamir 1 GB-15.

CNG stations not to be closed for 2 days/week

ISLAMABAD: The proposal of keeping the CNG stations closed for 2 days a week has bee postponed after the talks between Federal Minister for Privatization Naveed Qamar and All Pakistan CNG Association.

The CNG Association has withdrawn its call for strike.

After the meeting, Federal Minister for Privatization Naveed Qamar said the gas load-management will not be undertaken from November 15, but added that shortage of gas do exist.

The president of All Pakistan CNG Association Ghayas Paracha said the gas load-management will not start from November 15, therefore, the call for strike has been scrapped. He said the gas supply will continue to the CNG stations throughout the week.

Paracha said a committee comprising government representatives and CNG stations has been formed and that it will soon forward its report to the Petroleum Ministry.
