WASHINGTON: The US Congress has appropriated the amount of $1.5 billion for Pakistan for fiscal year 2010 under the Kerry-Lugar Law. Of this amount $268 million will be used as military assistance.
US officials confirmed to this correspondent that these $268 million would be separate from Coalition Support Fund (CSF) and Pakistan Counter Insurgency Capability Fund (PCCF). United States did approve last year $1.6 billion and $700 million to give Pakistan under CSF and PCCF respectively.
It means that Pakistan is expected to receive $3.8 billion as military and non-military assistance from the United States during the fiscal year 2010. Pakistan will become the second largest recipient of the US assistance, which gets $2.2 billion annual US aid.

NAPIER: Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first in third and deciding cricket test against New Zealand in Napier.
New Zealand have brought in opening batsman BJ Whatling and pace bowler Tim Southee.
Captain Dan Vettori will bat at number 6 with Grant Elliott being left out of the eleven.
Vettori says he would have batted first if he”d won the toss.
New Zealand won the first test by 32 runs and Pakistan won the second by 141 runs.

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former captain Waqar Younis as bowling and fielding coach of the national cricket team.
Accordding to the PCB spokesman, this appointment has been made for Pakistan?s tour of Australia where the national team will play three Test matches, five One-day Internationals and a Twenty20 International.
Earlier, Waqar Younis was appointed bowling coach of the Pakistan team in 2006 but he had resigned from the job in early 2007 due to differences with the then chairman of the board Dr Nasim Ashraf.
However, this is strange to note that assistant coach Aaqib Javed, who is included in the team management, is also a bowlerin whose presence the new bowling and fielding coach has now been appointed.
