US Congress approves $1.5b for Pakistan

WASHINGTON: The US Congress has appropriated the amount of $1.5 billion for Pakistan for fiscal year 2010 under the Kerry-Lugar Law. Of this amount $268 million will be used as military assistance.

US officials confirmed to this correspondent that these $268 million would be separate from Coalition Support Fund (CSF) and Pakistan Counter Insurgency Capability Fund (PCCF). United States did approve last year $1.6 billion and $700 million to give Pakistan under CSF and PCCF respectively.

It means that Pakistan is expected to receive $3.8 billion as military and non-military assistance from the United States during the fiscal year 2010. Pakistan will become the second largest recipient of the US assistance, which gets $2.2 billion annual US aid.
