ISLAMABAD: The ongoing power crisis would end before the start of next summer, Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Parvez Ashraf told a press conference on Thursday.
Issuing a warning to the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), he said that action would be taken if the KESC did not control the deliberate loadshedding and release of inflated bills in the metropolis.
On this occasion, PPP?s Central Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab, President and General Secretary of PPP Karachi Division were also present at the press conference.
He claimed that the IPPs and Rental Power Plants would become operation before summer season, after which the load shedding would end.
Ashraf further said that the NRO had paved the way for the return of democracy in the country.
?We now want to set up a new anti-corruption organization with the support of Opposition and other stake holders,? he said.

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari said that some powers want to restrict Pakistan People?s Party (PPP) to one province.
President Zardari said some authorities want to misguide democratic powers, however, he said public will not come under the temptation.
?We will thrash all the conspiracies together with the people of Pakistan,? President added.

In a statement on the occasion of Quad-e-Azam?s birth anniversary and Christmas, Nawaz Sharif said the nation has no other choice but to fearlessly stand for the truth and what is right.
?It is the government?s responsibility to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution and law through its implementation by not defending any wrongdoing or corrupt practice,? Nawaz Sharif stressed.
He said the nation will have to move ahead with the spirit of brotherhood and unity.

RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Minority Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti Thursday said that the government was taking special measures for prisoners belonging to minorities.
The federal minister today visited Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he also cut a Christmas cake with the Christian inmates.
He said that the government would construct places of worships for minorities and would provide legal assistance to poor inmates.
Bhatti also distributed Christmas gifts among the Christian prisoners.

RAWALPINDI: A suicide blast has occurred at Sain Buta Shrine situated in Shakrial area of Rawalpindi, injuring one policeman, Geo News reported Thursday.
Islamabad SSP Tahir Alam said that the suicide bomber blew him up when the police asked him to stop.
A heavy contingent of the police personnel has been sent to the place of blast.

Pakistan has been placed in Group D of the World Cup to be held in New Zealand next month.
According to an Indian news agency, Group A will consist of India, England, Afghanistan and Hong Kong while Group B will comprise South Africa, Australia, Ireland and the USA.
Group C includes New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Canada while Group D will have Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies and Papua New Guinea.
Defending champions India are aiming to win the tournament for the third time, having previously won it in Sri Lanka in 2000 and in Malaysia last year.
Pakistan and Australia are the other sides to have won the tournament twice each. Pakistan won back-to-back titles in 2004 in Bangladesh and 2006 in Sri Lanka while Australia lifted the trophy in 1998, when the event was staged in its backyard, and then in New Zealand in 2002.
England’’s only title came in South Africa in 1998 when it defeated New Zealand by seven wickets at the Wanderers.
India opens its campaign against qualifier Afghanistan at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, near Christchurch, on the opening day of the competition on January 15, with Pakistan facing the West Indies in Palmerston North and 2008 beaten finalist South Africa taking on Ireland in Queenstown.
