Suspect held, hand grenades, explosives seized: police

LAHORE: The police on Friday apprehended a suspected person and recovered two hand grenades and explosives from his possession.

According to sources, the police raided a house located in Margala Town of the federal capital on a tip off and arrested the suspect.

The suspect wanted to carry out terrorist activities during Muharram, the police claimed.

According to police, 16 suspected people have been arrested in different raids conducted in parts of Islamabad.

2 swine flu patients die in Karachi

KARACHI: Two more patients of swine flu died in different city hospitals here on Friday, raising the death toll to five in Sindh so far.

A 70-year old swine flu patient was admitted to Ziauddin Hospital on 22nd December and another 30-year-old man with the disease symptons to Isolation Ward of Civil Hospital. Both died today, said health officials.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that the blood samples of both patients were sent to National Institute of Health Islamabad (NIH) where they were confirmed as swine flu victims.

PAF working on plan to cut civilian losses: Air Chief

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman says that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) remains prepared to save the nation from any internal and external threat.

He was speaking to the airmen, who are taking part in the ongoing military operation against militants in South Waziristan.

Lauding the performance and high-morale of airmen, he said that the PAF will fully cooperate with the Pakistan Army in its offensive against militants in the tribal areas.

?We are successfully achieving the targets set by army in this connection,? he said.

The air chief marshal said the PAF is chalking out an effective strategy to save the civilians from the danger of aerial strikes.

Constitution has no room for military courts: Awan

KARACHI: Federal Law Minister Babar Awan Friday said that there was no room for military courts in the Constitution.

Speaking to media at the PPP Secretariat here, he said that there was complete harmony among the state institutions.
