MELBOURNE: Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting urged Pakistan to bring on a bouncer war as he declared himself an almost certain starter for his 13th Boxing Day Test.
According to the Courier Mail, Ponting will wear an arm guard to protect his sore left elbow ? but insists he has no fear about being targeted by a short-pitched bumper assault.
?I?m more than happy for them to bowl there all day ? let?s leave it at that. I?ve got hit on my arm once in my career. If I?ve got a problem against the short ball, no doubt I?ll find out a bit more over the next few weeks because the Pakistanis have got some good fast bowlers,? Ponting was quoted as saying.
Ponting has spent several sessions in a hyperbaric chamber after being thumped on the elbow by Calypso firebrand Kemar Roach in Perth.
The 35-year-old Australian skipper has been off his best in 2009, averaging only 39 and with only one century from 12 Tests this year. Ponting has tumbled to 14th position in Test cricket?s batting rankings, his lowest placing since October 2002.
But he insists he is primed for a big score against Pakistan.
