Altaf welcomes President Zardari?s views

LONDON: Commenting on President Zardari?s speech on the occasion of 2nd death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)?s Chief Altaf Hussain said views expressed by President Zardari are valuable and MQM welcomes it.

In a statement, Altaf Hussain said people of Pakistan, whether belonging to Pakistan People?s Party (PPP) or any other political party, had condemned Benazir Bhutto?s assassination.

?Leaders and workers of PPP were emotional today on the occasion of 2nd death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto, and it is natural,? Altaf added.

MQM chief said President Zardari pointed out the sacrifice of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and other PPP workers for the people of Pakistan and democracy. He said MQM welcomes President Zardari?s slogan ?Pakistan khappay?.

Altaf further said MQM will always play its role for democratic system and democracy is in favor of the country.

Govt taking steps for rule of law: Rabbani

KARACHI: Senator Raza Rabbaini, deputy secretary general Pakistan Peoples Party, has said that the government is taking measures for rule of law and supremacy of constitution in the country.

Speaking to media at a ceremony held to mark the second death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto here on Sunday, he said that the nation would soon hear good news about strengthening of democracy.

A large number of PPP activist, senor party leaders, senators, MNAs and advisers attended the meeting. The participants of the meeting offered Fateha and laid floral wreath at the photograph of Benazir Bhutto.

PML-N leader Salim Zia and a delegation of Awami National Party also took part in the ceremony.

Rabbani told media that we make a pledge at this day that democracy would be strengthened in the country by implementing the philosophy of Benazir Bhutto.

31 hurt in Karachi blast

KARACHI: Thirty-one people, including police and rangers personnel, have been injured in a blast near Orangi Town?s Kasba Morr area in Karachi.

According to the Police, the blast occurred due to gas-blockage in a manhole.

It may be mention here that blast had taken place when a Muharram procession was crossing the blast site.

Tension erupted the area after the blast while three vehicles were set on fire by the enraged mob.

Police and rescue workers had reached the scene and initiated the rescue work.

Police said the blast had taken place due to the gas-blockage, however, eyewitnesses said blast occurred with the help of remote control device.

24 out of total 31 injured were shifted to Qatar Hospital while remaining seven were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
