Congress slams Shiv Sena for targeting SRK on IPL fiasco

NEW DELHI: India?s ruling party Congress on Sunday condemned Shiv Sena for threatening Shah Rukh Khan for supporting Pakistani players on the IPL issue, saying legal action should be taken against those threatening the actor.

Congress spokesman Manish Tewari told media persons here that if Shahrukh has been threatened then legal action should be taken against those responsible and the film actor provided full protection.

He said it was unfortunate that some political parties who do not believe in the secular and pluralistic ethos of the country were trying to politicise each issue and give a communal tinge to the IPL issue.

He said the Congress condemns such comments of the Shiv Sena and its suggestion that Shahrukh favoured Pakistani players in IPL as his name was Khan.

The Shiv Sena has hit out at Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan for his comments on Pakistani cricketers with one leader saying he should play his matches in Lahore and another declaring that the star”s films would not be allowed to be screened in Thane.

Attacking Shah Rukh for espousing the cause of Pakistani players who were ignored in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, Shiv Sena”s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said if the actor was so interested in them ”he could go play his matches in Lahore, not in India”. Pakistan has been blatantly indulging in terror activities and killing our innocent people. Sena is firm in our policy of not allowing Pakistani players on our soil.”” Taking the issue further, Thane Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde announced that no film of Shah Rukh”s would be screened in the district.

””Since Shah Rukh Khan has hurt the sentiments of the people by his utterances, we have decided that his films will not exhibited in any cinema or multiplex in entire Thane district,”” said Eknath Shinde.
