ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary committee on constitutional reforms reached a consensus to make amendments in Article 224 of the Constitution.
The committee presided over by Raza Rabbni held a close-door meeting at the Parliament House today (Wednesday).
Sources privy to the meeting said that the proposals submitted for the amendments in Article 224 were discussed and it was finally agreed that proposals would be made part of the recommendations given for constitutional reforms.
According to the proposed amendments, the President will consult Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, Four Provincial Chief Ministers and Opposition leaders of four assemblies about the caretaker set up following the end of government?s tenure.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wednesday said the report of investigation into Karachi Ashura blast shows that the blast was not suicidal but actually it was carried out using a telephonic remote control.
The above report presented to the Federal Interior Ministry, says that the explosion in the middle of Ashura procession was executed using the same type of explosives which were used in blasts carried out on 8th and 9th Moharram in the city.
The analysis of forensic and arsenic experts have also been incorporated in the investigation report.

KARACHI: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Wednesday that steps taken by Pakistan after the Mumbai attacks were commended in India, however, these were not formally acknowledged on the state level.
Speaking to media during a visit to Karachi, Foreign Minister Qureshi said: ?We have forwarded our suggestions to Indian foreign minister for the betterment of bilateral ties.?
To a question, he said that there were some objectionable clauses in the new US immigration laws, adding that the foreign ministry was collecting more information in this regard.
The foreign minister said that he would take up the issue of immigration laws with US Special Envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke, who was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Jan 14.
Responding to a query about visa problems between Pakistan and United States, he said that the matter was discussed with Washington?s ambassador to Islamabad and most of the points were already solved.

PARACHINAR: Five terrorists were killed when an explosives laden vehicle went off with a blast in Kurram Agency.
According political administration, the militants were on their way in an explosives laden vehicle towards a target of carrying out terrorist activity when the explosives went off in Dar region of Ali Sher Zari in central Kurram, killing all the five terrorists riding the vehicle.
Over 50 militants have been killed and more than 60 apprehended in the security forces operation which has been underway in central Kurram for the last two months.

KARACHI: The alleged mastermind of bomb blast at Karachi?s Ashura procession was remanded to police custody till Jan 9.
Judicial Magistrate Dr Shabana Waheed on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of Qari Serajullah alias Zeeshan alias Shani, member of a banned outfit, till Jan 9.
The judge ordered the police to produce the accused in court with a complete charge-sheet on the next hearing.
Earlier, the accused was brought to the court under tight security.
