KARACHI: Karachi Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal Friday said the City District Government has received not received even single rupee as financial assistance announced for the city following the Ashura incident.
During his visit to Boulton market along with the delegation of ABAD, the City Nazim said the Builders and Developers Association will start from scratch reconstruction of Quetta Market located in the Boulton Market.
Quetta Market is a ground plus three-storey building in which there are 400 shops.
Mustafa Kamal said a number of builders are coming forward for reconstruction of the damaged/ burned down buildings.

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Friday said that there was no connection of MQM activists and Urdu speaking people with the Lyari gang wars and ongoing incidents of violence in Karachi.
In a statement issued here, the MQM?s Rabita Committee said that a bloody fighting took place between Lyari gangs on Jan 7, resulting in the killing of several people. However, he said that criminal people of Lyari gang wars first kidnapped MQM workers and Urdu speaking people, and then later martyred them on Jan 8.
?The killing of the innocent MQM?s workers has become a routine matter now, it said.
The committee said that despite the fact that MQM has been informing the federal and provincial governments about the gruesome incidents, no positive outcome has surfaced so far.
The coordination committee further said that no action was taken against any murderer.
Therefore, the MQM appeals to the responsible and honest officers of rangers, police and secret agencies that they should come forward to protect the life and property of innocent people.
According to the MQM, it is the legal and constitutional obligation of law enforcement agencies to protect innocent people from getting killed.

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly?s standing committee for sports has called the chairman and the chief operation officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), coach and manager of the national cricket team for disappointing performance of Pakistan against Australia.
The committee has also imposed fine of Rs100,000 on hockey player Rehan Butt while the coach and the manager of the team have been fined for Rs50,000 each for the objectionable pictures? publication in media.
The committee members at a meeting, presided over by its chairman Jamshed Dasti, expressed severe anger over the publication of the national hockey team players? objectionable pictures.
Jamshed Dasti has directed to impose fine of Rs100,000 on Rehan Butt and Rs50,000 each on the coach and the manager.
The committee through a unanimous resolution has recommended to sack chairman PCB Ijaz Butt.
The members of the committee said that Butt is not capable of running the cricket board and he should immediately be removed.
Secretary Establishment Division Ismail Qureshi told the committee that the Punjab government has been asked to explain regarding making any operation against high-level police officers for their negligence in security of the Sri Lankan cricket team.
After the Punjab government sends the case against the concerned police officers then the operation will be made after getting an approval from the prime minister.

KARACHI: The dead bodies of six persons died in Baldia Town?s blast and severed human limbs have been shifted to Civil Hospital while a suspect has been arrested from the facility?s Emergency Department.
The autopsy of the bodies and limbs has been carried out in Civil Hospital.
The investigation team has taken the finger prints of the arrested suspect, identified as Habib and aged 20. He had sustained injuries in Baldia Town blast.
SSP CID Fayaz Khan said those died in the blast were aged between 20 to 25 years.
Medico-legal Office of Civil Hospital, Dr. Mubarak Ali told Geo News that ball-berrings were found on the bodies of the deceased whose DNA samples have also been taken.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed Friday said that innocent people were getting killed in US drone strikes.
Briefing the media in Islamabad, Syed called on the United States to review its policy of drone strikes in Pakistan?s tribal region. He noted that drones strikes were undermining Islamabad?s efforts against terrorism.
?There is no possibility of mid-term polls, he said, adding the country cannot afford it either.?
He said that Pakistan media was more independent than its American or British counterpart.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan was committed to a durable strategic partnership with the US premised on mutual interests, respect and trust.
The Prime Minister said this in a meeting with the members of US Congressional delegation led by Senator Mitch MacConnel, which called on him at Prime Minister House Friday evening.
Gilani underlined the need that both sides must undertake concerted efforts to further improve bilateral ties and remove trust deficit caused by certain lingering misperceptions and misgivings.
The Prime Minister reassured the US of his government?s sincere efforts to build upon the traditional cordial bilateral ties spanned over 60 years period.
He however stressed that the US government by undertaking measures like immediate disbursement of long withheld Coalition Support Fund to Pakistan, grant of enhanced market access to Pakistani products to the US market by entering into FTA, assistance in development of areas affected by terrorism and showing a non-discriminatory approach by providing it with the civilian nuclear technology, can greatly improve its image amongst the people of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister also identified de-hyphenating Pakistan with Afghanistan, treating Pakistan on equal footings with India and playing a pro-active role in resolution of core issues between Pakistan India including those of Kashmir and water for long term stable and congenial relationship between the two countries.
The US Congressional delegation assured the Prime Minister of its complete support towards the resolution of CSF reimbursement issue and for working in the Congress for greater market access to Pakistani products.
Other members of the delegation included Senators Ms. Lisa Murkowski, Mike Carpo, Roger F. Wicker and Representative Michael N. Castle. US Ambassador Ms. Anne W. Patterson was also present during the meeting.

KARACHI: There is only 300,000 tons of furnace oil in the country?s stock which is hardly enough for generating electricity for 18 days.
According to sources of Petroleum Ministry, the oil companies have chalked out a plan to import further 270,000 tons furnace oil in January while 250,000 tons oil is expected to be refined by the local oil refineries during the same month.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry has made payment of Rs8 billion as circular debt to Pakistan State Oil, source said.

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Syed Munawar Hasan, condemning US Senator John McCain over his remarks about continuation of drone strikes, demanded the government to shoot down unmanned US aircrafts.
Addressing the Friday sermon at the Mansoora today, he said the government should register a strong protest against McCain?s remarks.
