PML-N, PPP will fail to seize LG system: Ch brothers

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi have said that Pakistan Muslim League-N and Pakistan Peoples Party have embarked on a same agenda to seize the local bodies system.

Addressing the party?s organizational meeting in Lahore on Saturday, they said the attempts made by the two coalition partners to get hold of the local government system have failed.

According to the Chaudhry brothers, the provincial government has broken all its previous records of corruption and poor administration in Faisalabad.

Both PPP and PML-N have set out on similar goals, they remarked.

The Punjab government could have earned Rs15billioin if it had imposed fine on plaza owners instead of demolishing them.

Spain beats Britain to win Hopman Cup Tennis Tournament

PERTH: Spain rallied from behind to beat Britain 2-1 to win its third Hopman Cup mixed tennis title in Perth on Saturday.

Tommy Robredo toppled world number four Andy Murray in the men’’s singles and paired with Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez for the mixed doubles to help Spain rally for the 2-1 victory.

Earlier, 15-year-old Laura Robson stunned world number 26 Martinez Sanchez 6-1 and 7-6 to give Britain a surprise lead before Robredo levelled for Spain with a 1-6, 6-4 and 6-3 upset of Murray.

The Spaniards then saved three set points in the opening set of the deciding mixed doubles as they clinched a dramatic 7-6 and 7-5 victory to win the event for the third time.

For Robredo, it was his second Hopman Cup victory after partnering Arantxa Sanchez Vicario to the title in 2002.

5 more gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: Five people were killed and three others wounded as violent incidents continued in different parts of Karachi on Saturday.

According to reports, an exchange of fire erupted between police and unknown gunmen, in which one policeman was killed while SHO was injured.

Unknown armed men again opened fire at Bihar Colony, killing two persons, including a passer-by and injuring two others.

Another man was gunned down in Malir.

In another incident, armed motorcyclists shot dead a man, identified as Jamil Baloch, in Ranchor Line.

Four killed in N Waziristan drone attack

MIRANSHAH: A US missile strike on Saturday killed at least four militants and injured five others in North Waziristan .

According to sources, the missile struck a compound in Ismail Khel village, 40 kilometres (25 miles) west of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal region on the Afghan border.

Eyewitnesses said that drones were seen flying across the area following the above strikes.

Pakistan?s inflation will be 11 percent: IMF

NEW YORK: International Monetary Fund (IMF) hinted that Pakistan?s inflation rate will be increase from 9 to 11 percent for current fiscal year.

In an analytical report, IMF has increased the inflation rate for Pakistan from 9 percent to 11 percent for current fiscal year. The increased in the target has been made keeping in view increment in the crude oil prices and rise in power tariff. The economic growth rate will be 3 percent whereas threats to economic progress will also remain same.

The report added that there is increment in flow of remittances in Pakistan therefore, it is expected that current accounts deficit will be decline from 4.7 percent to 4.2 percent.
