Scores: Bangladesh 247-6 in 50 overs (S. Hasan 85,Mahmudullah 64 not out) v India 249-4 in 43 overs (V. Kohli 102 not out).

PPP suspends Israr CEC membership

LAHORE: The Pakistan Peoples Party suspended on Tuesday the Central Executive Committee membership of Dr Israr Shah over violation of party discipline.

PPP Secretary General Jehangir Badar confirmed Geo that the membership of Dr Israr Shah was suspended, saying it was not suitable to openly discuss the party?s internal affairs.

If we did not take action against the violation of party discipline, it would become difficult to run the party?s affairs, he justified.

It may be noted here that Dr Israr Shah had written an open letter against Federal Law Minister Babar Awan, which was then published in newspapers.

When contacted, Dr. Shah told Geo that he was not formally informed about the decision.

He said that terrorists had broken his legs, but some of the party?s members, who are close to Co-Chairman, want to behead him.

200 stranded people airlifted to Gilgit

HUNZA: As many as 200 people stranded in snow-hit Sost valley of Hunza due to land sliding have been airlifted to Gilgit by helicopters on Monday.

According to local authorities, the restoration of the Karakoram Highway could take one month.

According to the spokesman of Gilgit-Baltistan Disasters Management Authority, 200 people, including traders, truck drivers and laborers, are stranded in Sost valley over land sliding on Karakoram Highway. They have been airlifted to Gilgit by helicopters.

While relief items have been dispatched to the snow-hit victims of Ataabad by the Red Cross.

Relief efforts are under way to open Karakoram Highway, said authorities.

Mirza orders release of innocent detainees from Lyari

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza Monday issued orders for immediate release of all the innocent people of Lyari who are in police detention.

In a statement issued here from Sindh Media Cell, the Sindh Home Minister has ordered to free all the innocent people arrested during operation in Lyari.

The directive followed a rally taken out by People?s Peace Committee from Lyari to Karachi Press Club today. A large number of women and children also participated in the rally.

According to police 62 people were arrested during the past 5 days from Lyari and Pak Colony.

KSE-100 Index gains 21 points

KARACHI: Buying continued at Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) Monday, pushing the benchmark KSE-100 Index slightly up by 21 points to 9,797.

The share market started today?s trade with positive numbers and remained in the green zone throughout the opening session of the week.

The trade volume was recorded at 170 million shares.

Pace Pakistan made it to the top on the list of volume leaders, gaining paisas 11 to close at Rs6.40.

KSE-30 Index closed 40 points up to 10,329.
