Fazal not to act as mediator for govt-Taliban talks

LAHORE: Jamiat Ulema-I-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman said Sunday that he was ready to play a mediatory role between the government and the Taliban prior to military operations in the tribal areas, but not now as Pakistan had enforced a war on themselves.

Addressing a news conference here, he said that Pakistan needed to quit the terror war in view of the national security.

Rehman opined that Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) was playing a positive role as opposition. It is surely criticizing the government, but is refraining from confrontation, he remarked.

?It is a good omen that despite having differences, politicians are united for the survival of democratic set-up,? he said.

The JUI-F chief was of the view that the decision to join world alliance in terror war was made by Pervez Musharraf alone and no state institution endorsed it.

He further said that the National Security Committee had sought proposals to change policies, but foreign and interior ministries did not respond.

Rehman announced that Kashmir Committee would hold a conference in February, in which leadership of both sides of Kashmir would take part.
