ISLAMABAD: The Privatization Commission and National Bank of Pakistan have announced to get into a partnership to revitalize and rejuvenate the Privatization Program of the government.
It was decided during a meeting between Federal Minister for Privatization Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan and President National Bank of Pakistan Syed Ali Raza here Friday.
The country’’s largest banking network National Bank of Pakistan with its wide presence abroad will work closely with the Privatization Commission to identify avenues of value addition for State Owned Entities (SoEs) on the privatization list and to attract international investors and financial institutions.
In order to proceed further in this regard, the arrangements will be formalized in the forthcoming meeting of PC officials with the NBP management.
Federal Minister for Privatization reiterated that Pakistan has immense potential and the government was determined to exploit all opportunities of value addition prior to taking the entities to market.

MADRID: Real Madrid is going to provide funds to rebuild a school that was destroyed in the earthquake in Haiti.
Team president Florentino Perez said the Real Madrid Foundation will donate money to resurrect the Ecole Saint Gerard in Port-au-Prince.
Real Madrid will work with a Spanish NGO called Acoger y Compatir, which founded the school. It had 1,200 students but was flattened in the quake, with some 300 children killed, Perez said at a ceremony at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Perez said ?Haiti has suffered an absolute disaster and we face a great challenge, but we must not think it is impossible to achieve.””
The team also plans to create a football school and social club that will provide Haitian children with medical care and food.

LAHORE: Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khwaja Muhammad Sharif has said that people don?t understand legal complications; they want only justice, which is the responsibility of courts.
Speaking at an award-distribution ceremony here on Friday, he said the difficulties being faced by the people come to limelight through media, which is playing a major role in creating awareness.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that he has not heard the statement of US Defense Secretary Robert Gates about Blackwater?s presence in the country.
However, he said Pakistan?s law enforcement agencies have the US support for training purpose in the war against terror.
Talking to media outside Parliament House, Kaira said what he heard from Robert Gates is that both countries are cooperation with each other on security issues.
Answering a question, he said law experts are reviewing the courts verdict in NRO case so he cannot comment on that.
He said allied meeting was called in the President House to discuss important issues.

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday issued a directive for immediate implementation of the Supreme Court?s verdict on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
Talking to media in Lahore, the Prime Minister said the government respects the decision of the Supreme Court and that order has been issued for putting in effect the SC verdict on NRO on fast track basis.
?The government has always honoured the decision of the Supreme Court,? he reiterated, adding, ?We have not come into power through any back door but with public mandate.?
He said the present democratic set up is not facing any threat.
Replying a question, the Premier said that the President enjoys immunity under the Constitution.
He said all the political parties will be taken along.
To another question, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said Aitzaz Ahsan is a significant leader of Pakistan People?s Party and that he is often consulted on legal matters. He will also be consulted on NRO.
He expressed confidence that the matter of judges? appointments will be resolved under the Constitution and law.

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader Mushahid Hussain Syed Friday said that drone strikes were taking place in the country?s tribal region with consent of the government.
Speaking to newsmen at the Karachi airport, he called upon Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo motto notice of the rental power projects.
To a question, he welcomed President Asif Ali Zardari?s speeches in Punjabi language and hoped that the President would deliver his address in Pashto in NWFP.
Syed further said that government had pledged to increase power tariff by six per cent only. But the Asian Development Bank?s report clearly said that rental power projects would increase the power tariff by 45 percent.
