Pakistan is delaying international talks on a ban on the production of new nuclear bomb material, insisting that any deal must also require its archrival India to reduce its existing stockpile.

FFBL profits rose by 41pc

KARACHI: Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim (FFBL) announced its full year CY09 result on Tuesday. The company posted earnings of Rs3.8bn (Earning Per Share Rs4.05) compared to earnings of Rs2.9bn (Earning Per Share Rs3.10) during CY08.

The result was above the expectation of the market experts.

Along with the result, the company declared a final cash dividend of Rs2.25 per share, taking cumulative full year dividend to Rs4.0 per share.

FoDP assures help to overcome power crisis

DUBAI: Turkey has assured that it will play a leading role in overcoming the ongoing power shortage in Pakistan?s energy sector.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc has said this at Friend of Democratic Pakistan conference in Dubai on Tuesday.

Addressing the participants, Arinc said Turkish companies will provide every help in boosting investment in Pakistan?s energy sector.

He further said Pakistan needed USD50 billions in the energy sector during next 10 to 15 years as country?s power demand is expected to go up by 6 to 7 percent per annum.

Teenage Shazia tortured, hospitalized in Karachi

KARACHI: A 17-year-old Shazia, who was allegedly tortured by her husband, was brought to the Jinnah Hospital for medical examination on Tuesday.

She told media that she was not being allowed to visit her parents? house for the last several months.

A resident of Qasba Colony, Shazia, had married to Siddiq some 11 months ago. But only three months after the marriage, she was barred from visiting her parents? home and other relatives.

Shazia alleged that her husband would beat her with sticks and burnt her back with the iron. However, two days ago, she fled her house and reached parents? house at Qasba Colony.

After filing complaint of torture at the Pirabad Police Station, she was brought to the Jinnah Hospital, where Medico-lego officer Dr. Farida examined her.

According to initial report submitted by Dr. Farida, there are marks of torture on Shazia?s cheeks and other body parts.

PBC rejects SCBA strike call

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council on Tuesday rejected a strike call announced by the Supreme Court Bar Association for Jan 28.

SCBA President Qazi Anwar hinted that he could reconsider his strike call after it was rejected by the PBC.
