LAHORE: Justice Saqib Nisar Saturday termed his rejection of the position of Acting Chief Justice of Lahore High Court as an act of penance for his taking oath as LHC judge during the lawyers? movement.
Talking to Geo News? correspondent Riaz Shakir, the LHC senior judge said he did not care about the consequences of his decision.

QUETTA: A reception was hosted here on Saturday at the Governor House in honour of boxers Naimatullah Khan and Mohammad Waseem, who won gold and silver medals, respectively.
Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi, provincial minister for sports Mir Shahnawaz Maree, president Pakistan Boxing Association Faqir Hussain and other officials attended the reception.
On this occasion, the Governor Balochistan appreciated the performance of Naimatullah and Waseem and awarded them a cash prize of Rs100,000 each.
He also ensured employment for these boxers.
Earlier, Naimatullah and Waseem were accorded a warm welcome on arriving in Quetta.

ISLAMABAD: A 3-judge bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has suspended the notification of judges? appointment hours after its issuance by the government on Saturday.
The special bench held a meeting soon after its formation by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and suspended the President?s decision of judges? appointment, declaring it a violation of Article-177 of the Constitution. Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif and Justice Mian Saqib Nisar will continue to serve as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) and senior judge LHC respectively, the bench said.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry taking suo motto notice of the notification of judges? appointment Saturday evening formed a 3-judge bench headed by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan with Justice Raja Fayaz and Justice Jawad S. Khwaja as its members.
Meanwhile, Additional Registrar Supreme Court Qasi Sajid provided the details/ records in connection with judges appointment to the special bench.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari elevated Justice Khwaja Sharif as SC judge and Justice
Saqib Nisar as Acting CJ of LHC through an official notification.
However, Justice Khwaja Sharif and Justice Saqib Nisar refused to accept the decision of the government.
Later, the special bench adjourned its proceeding till February 18.
The 5-member SC bench which had been constituted for taking up the case of delay in judges? appointment will take the proceeding ahead.
Additional Secretary Law, Attorney Generals of Pakistan and the four advocate generals have been summoned.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Khwaja Sharif and Justice Saqib Nisar, the senior most LHC judge, Saturday refused to accept the decision of the government.
They made it clear that they will not go against the recommendation or instruction of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Talking to Geo News? senior correspondent Abdul Qayum Siddiqui, Justice Saqib Nisar said he was invited to take oath as Acting CJ of LHC on Sunday by Governor Salman Taseer, but he refused the invitation by saying: ?The orders of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry are binding for me and I will not take any step against the recommendation or instruction of the CJP.?

KARACHI: Pakistan judo team will not go to India for taking part in the Indra Gandhi International Judo Championship as it did not get NOC from the ministry of sports.
Talking with Geo News, secretary Pakistan Judo Federation Masood Ahmed said that 25 countries were to be participating in the Indra Gandhi International Judo Championship , scheduled to be held from February 19 in Jaipur, India.
Pakistan had also confirmed its participation in the championship but the sports ministry did not issue the NOC to the judo team due to which the 15-man team will not participate in the event.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari setting aside the summary of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Saturday appointed Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Khwaja Sharif as Supreme Court?s judge, Geo News reported.
Meanwhile, Justice Saqib Nisar, the senior most judge of LHC, has been appointed Acting Chief Justice of LHC. It is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that a senior judge has been appointed as the acting chief justice.
Notifications of the above appointments have been issued.
However, the presidential spokesman has refused to confirm or reject the said appointments.
Earlier, there has been some tension between the government and the judiciary over the issue of elevating Justice Khwaja Sharif as SC judge.
