KARACHI: A fire broke out at a garment factory located in Landhi Industrial Area in Karachi, Geo reported Sunday.
All fire tenders were taking part in the efforts to douse the blaze, which was still raging, the fire tender officers said.
On information, the fire fighters rushed to the scene.
A woman and factory worker, who fell unconscious due to the smoke, were shifted to the Jinnah Hospital for medical aid. They were identified as Parveen and Amir.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Q (Like-minded Group) President Salim Saifullah has said that President Asif Ali Zardari is bound under Article 177 of the Constitution to appoint judges in consultation with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference at the residence of party?s Secretary Information Mian Asif, he urged the government not to make it an issue of ego and consult the judiciary to avert the new judicial crisis.
In the past Pakistan Army had decided not to meet any politician, he said, adding that it has again started to meet politicians.
The government, he said, has failed to solve the issues of law and order, inflation, price hike and Karachi situation.

LAKI MARWAT: A suspected man was arrested and his accomplice fled on Sunday evening near the residence of Iqbal Marwat, the District Police Officer of Bannu.
While search operation was under way to apprehend the other missing person, the police said.
According to police authorities, the suspected person apparently came to the area to condole the death of blast victims. However, the local people became alert over his suspicious actions.
The arrested person, who was shivering with fear, was shifted to local police station for further interrogation.

KARACHI: Lawyers bodies, civil society and various political parties staged countrywide demonstrations on Sunday in support of superior judiciary after it struck down two presidential orders about the appointment of judges on Saturday evening.
The Jamaat-e-Islami held a protest demo in front of Karachi Press Club against the government. The protestors were holding placards inscribed with pro-judiciary slogans.
The protest was led by JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehanti.
Similarly, the JI also staged protest outside the Lahore Press Club, while the Tehrik-e-Insaaf took out a rally.
Addressing the participants, speakers said that they would not hesitate to take to streets again for the cause of judiciary?s independence.
A rally was taken out in Multan in support of judges. The participants of the rally chanted slogans in favour of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khwaja Sharif and senior judge Justice Saqib Nisar.
They said that President Zardari had adopted the dictatorial approach under a democratic set-up.
In Quetta, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf workers staged a demonstration in front of Press Club.

ISLAMABAD: The activists of Pakistan Peoples Party staged rallies in different cities to show support for President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday.
The PPP workers held demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club against Pakistan Muslim League-N. They chanted slogans in support of party?s Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari and burned effigy of PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Rana Aftab Ahmed, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi and other party?s workers also took part in the protest demonstration.
Speaking on this occasion, Rana Aftab said the decision made by the judiciary in the dark would not be accepted.
The PPP workers also took out a rally in Garrison city of Rawalpindi, where they set ablaze tyres on Murre Road. They had gathered in large numbers in front of the Press Club with placards inscribed with slogans in support of President Asif Ali Zardari.
In addition, rallies were taken out in Multan and Karachi also in support of the President.

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain has expressed concerns about rising confrontation between government and judiciary.
In a statement issued from London today (Sunday), Altaf Hussain said Pakistan is passing through a very critical time and under such circumstances the clash between the government and the judiciary cannot be termed positive.
He called on the rulers to stay away from any possible confrontation for the better future of country, nation and democracy.
The atmosphere of reconciliation should be maintained, he said, adding wise decisions should be made for the rule of law.

DUBAI: International Monetary Fund (IMF) lauding the steps taken by Pakistan towards economic stability, assured Pakistan of its continued association in future for improvement of the country?s economic condition.
Adnan Mazari, an IMF official, expressed these views in Dubai during a fourth review meeting of the Fund for releasing loan to Pakistan.
Federal Minister for Finance, Shaukat Tarin represented Pakistan at the meeting.
Spokesman of Federal Board of Revenue said Governor State Bank of Pakistan Salim Raza, Finance Secretary, Chairman FBR and other officials were also present.
The review meeting will continue till Febraury 16.
