Mehanti calls upon citizens to join ?Road Caravan?

KARACHI: Amir Jamat-e-Islami Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mehanti Saturday called upon the citizens to join the Road Caravan to record protest against load-shedding, price hike and ?American slavery?.

?The preparations for Road Caravan are at full swing and an NOC in this regard has been obtained from the government,? Mehanti said while talking to Geo News here.

Amir Jamat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hasan will lead the caravan scheduled to begin its rally from Sohrab Goth at 3 PM tomorrow (Sunday).

The JI leaders will address the participants at Tibet Centre where the caravan will reach via Water Pump, Aisha Manzil, Liaquatabad No 10, Hasan Square, Jail Chowrangi and Mazar-e-Quaid.

Restoration of Hyderabad district unacceptable: MQM

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has reacted strongly to the statement of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in which he termed the creation of new districts in Hyderabad as a flawed decision.

MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari reacted by saying, ?We are not being treated as partners (of the government) but as opponents.?

He said MQM will not accept any decision to restore previous status of Hyderabad as a single district. ?Any such decision will trigger public protest,? he warned.

Faisal Sabzwari said MQM will announce its detailed decision on the matter at the conclusion of Rabitta Committee?s meeting that, he said, was underway at the time of filing this story.

No decision without allies, PM assures MQM

KARACHI: Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan telephoned President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani over premier’’s remarks about division of Hyderabad Ditrict.

Gilani assured him that no decision in this regard would be taken without taking allies into confidence.

PM Gilani today termed as flawed the decision of dividing Hyderabad district and described it as detrimental to the interests of the citizens of the city.

He was addressing the workers of Pakistan People’’s Party from Hyderabad Division here.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has reacted strongly to the statement.

Pakistan win toss, elect to field against New Zealand

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi won the toss and elected to field against New Zealand in Super Eights match of the World Twenty20 here at the Kensington Oval on Saturday.

Pakistan made two changes - Mhammad Sami and Abdur Rehman replaced Mohammad Asif and Fawad Alam.

New Zealand also made two changes - Ian Buttler and Kyle Mills came in for Tim Southee and Jacob Oram.

Pakistan restrict Black Caps to 133 runs

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: Pakistan bowlers restricted New Zealand batsmen to 130 runs in a World Twenty20 Super Eights match at the Kensington Oval here on Saturday.

After Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi won the toss and put them into bat, New Zealand could not make a big score as they set a modest target of 134 runs for Pakistan.

Captain Daniel Vettori and opener Brendon McCullum were the main scorers for New Zealand: Vettori was run out off the penultimate ball of the innings for 38, which he made from 34 balls with two sixes and one four while McCullum scored 33 off 29 balls with five fours.

Scott Styris (21) and Nathan McCullum (12) were the only other batsmen to enter into double-figures while number of extras were 15.

For Pakistan, spinners Abdul Rehman and Shahid Afridi claimed two wickets each for 19 and 29, respectively while fast bowler Mohammad Sami captured two for 25.

This is an important match for both sides after they each lost their opening second round Group E fixtures here on Thursday, New Zealand going down by 13 runs to South Africa and Pakistan suffering a six-wicket loss to England.

Both sides made two changes each following those defeats.

New Zealand brought in pace bowlers Ian Butler and Kyle Mills to replace fellow seamers Tim Southee and Jacob Oram.

Meanwhile Pakistan recalled Mohammad Sami in place of Mohammad Asif and brought in left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman for Fawad Alam.
