KARACHI: Acting Sindh Governor Nisar Khuhro Sunday called for division of Karachi into five districts if Hyderabad?s current position was to be maintained.
Addressing a news conference at the PPP Media Cell here, he said that public opinion was not taken in the past on the division of Hyderabad and it was done only to gain political mileage.
?If the city of Karachi having population of more than 15 million can be made one district than why Hyderabad can?t become a single district?? he questioned.
About Prime Minister?s remarks about restoration of Hyderabad to its old position, he said that no notification was issued in this regard. Therefore, there was no need to show such reaction.
The acting governor said that PPP?s Core Committee was consistently trying to evolve a consensus on this issue and hoped that a joint agreement would be reached soon in this connection.
?Altaf Hussain believes in serious politics, he said, adding that the MQM chief will find out a solution by sitting together,? he added.

GUJRAT: Central leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Q Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has said that voice will be raised at every level against imposition of Value Added Tax (VAT), terming it an unjustified act and a cruelty against traders.
Addressing a convention of businessmen here on Sunday, Elahi said Shahbaz Sharif has joined hands with Pakistan People?s Party and is forcing traders to close their shops. ?While Nawaz Sharif is issuing threats of protest,? he complained.
He said this is how the two brothers are making fool out of the poor people.
Pervez Elahi said the farmers are not getting a fair price for Wheat while the administrators of Punjab are busy doing favours to their cronies after presenting gifts of price hike and unemployment to the people.

BRIDGETOWN: West Indies captain Chris Gayle struck a powerful 98 off 66 balls against India to lead his team to 169 for six in the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday.
Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul batted with caution in the early stages on a dampish wicket that was turning but they went on to make an opening partnership of 80 before the latter went in the 12th over for 23.
Darren Sammy (19) and Kieron Pollard (17) made useful contributions in support of Gayle, who struck seven sixes and was run out in the final over, two short of what would have been his second century in a Twenty20 international.
Earlier, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to field against hosts West Indies in their second match in the World Twenty20 Super Eights here at the Kensington Oval on Sunday.
India were unchanged but West Indies have brought Denesh Ramdin in to replace fellow wicketkeeper/batsman Andre Fletcher.
Both teams are looking to recover from defeats in their opening matches in the Super Eights.
India crashed to a 49-run defeat to Australia last Friday, and on the same day, West Indies slumped to a 57-run loss to Sri Lanka.
Teams:
West Indies: Chris Gayle (captain), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo, Wavell Hinds, Kieron Pollard, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Darren Sammy, Jerome Taylor, Kemar Roach, Sulieman Benn.
