Murray, Roddick advance in Queen?s Tennis

LONDON: Andy Murray started his bid to retain the title at Queen’’s Club with a 7-6 (10/8), 6-3 victory over Spain’’s Ivan Navarro in the second round on Tuesday.

Fourth seed Andy Roddick, another top player who struggled on the clay at Roland Garros before being knocked out in the third round by Russian qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili, also enjoyed being back on the grass.

The American is a four-time winner at Queen’’s and the world number seven looked eager to reclaim the title he last won in 2007 as he dismissed Russian Igor Kunitsyn 6-2, 6-1 in just 50 minutes.

Germany’’s Rainer Schuttler knocked out Gael Monfils in the second round with a surprise 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-2 win over the French sixth seed.

Gonfils’’s compatriot Richard Gasquet fared better as the 11th seed defeated America’’s Rajeev Ram 6-3, 7-5 to set up a third-round meeting with Schuttler.

In the remaining first-round matches, Grigor Dimitrov beat British wildcard Alex Bogdanovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a rain-interrupted clash. Colombian 13th seed Giraldo defeated Evgeny Korolev 7-6 (8/6), 4-6, 6-3, while Belgium’’s Xavier Malisse beat Russia’’s Dmitry Tursunov 6-2, 7-6 (7/3).

France’’s Nicolas Mahut, a runner-up at Queen’’s in 2007, cruised past Lu Yen-Hsun of Taipei 7-6 (7/2), 6-4. America’’s Fish was too strong for Somdev Devvarman of India, winning 6-1, 6-4.

Water inflow matches outflow at Attabad lake

HUNZA: Water inflow and outflow continues at a matching speed at Attabad lake as goods and affectees are being moved through helicopter and boat services.

According to official sources, water is flowing at 5000 cusecs into the landslide- formed Attabad lake while outflow also continues at the matching rate.

It is being feared that 15000 to 20000 cusecs water from melting glaciers will make its way into the lake in July. Earlier, this water used to flow into the Hunza River.

Helicopter service continues in Hunza and Gilgit following improvement in weather conditions. Now the affectees of Tehsil Gojal are being shifted to their areas.

Boat service is ferrying people in the upper areas of Hunza while Gilgit-Hunza section of Karakorum Highway remained opened till 4 pm today for transporting relief goods to the calamity-stricken people.

Imran says ?will unveil Sharifs? corruption to everyone?

LAHORE: Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Thursday said he will make a door to door visit and unveil ?Sharif brothers? corruption? to everyone.

Addressing a press conference here, Imran Khan maintained that the government tried to ?tie up the hands and feet of judges? through the 18th amendment and that the government is unable to root out corruption because it itself is corrupt.

He alleged that N-League has given a ticket to a ?Qabza group? and that he will go from door to door to unveil the corruption of Sharif brothers.

Parliament has authority to amend Constitution: Wasim

ISLAMABAD: Government counsel Wasim Sajjad has said that the Parliament enjoys full authority to make Constitutional amendments.

He was talking to media outside the Supreme Court in connection with the hearing of petitions against the 18th amendment in the Supreme Court.

Wasim Sajjad said none of the constitutional amendments made till today in Pakistan was annulled by the Supreme Court by declaring it against the basic structure of the Constitution. ?Even the basic structure of the Parliament is to be determined by the Parliament,? he added.

Players? morale high at camp, says Salman Butt

LAHORE: Vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team Salman Butt said here on Tuesday that the players at the training camp are working hard and their morale is high for displaying good performance at the Asia Cup and on the tour of England.

Talking with media on the inauguration of the summer camp at the Model Town Greens Academy, Salman Butt said that players are working hard at the camp and no body has any fitness problem.

He said that Shoaib Akhtar is considered as one of the best bowlers in the world and the team would be benefited by his presence.

Salman said that there are junior players along with the seniors and there is a good chance for them to show talent and make permanenet place in the team.
