Plane lands in Osh to bring Pakistanis home

ISLAMABAD: The repatriation process for the Pakistanis stranded in violence-hit Kyrgyzstan began today as a C-130 plane of Pakistan Air Force arrived in Osh to bring back the stranded Pakistanis, Geo News reported Monday.

The plane also carried 14 tones of relief goods along with other items for the victims of ethnic clashes in Kyrgyzstan while food and water for Pakistani citizens. Second plane was also expected to leave for Kyrgyzstan soon after the first aircraft departed here.

Relief items included medicine, tents and other food items. The plane would soon leave city of Osh after taking the stranded and dead body of Ali Raza onboard.

Earlier, talking to Geo News, the FO official said at least 30 Pakistanis would be brought home in the first stage of repatriation, adding there are at least 269 Pakistanis in Osh, of them, 30 are present near an airport in the city.

The FO official told a plane is about to leave for the strife-torn country to bring these Pakistanis back home, the plane also took relief goods to be distributed among the people rendered homeless by the ruthless clashes in the flashpoints.

According to the officials, government of Pakistan is persistently in contact with the Kyrgyz government for the safe homecoming of the remaining Pakistanis and as soon as the situation improves, other planes would be sent to repatriate others.

The FO spokesman said the Pak Embassy in Bishkek is making efforts to gather all Pakistanis at one point to send them back from Osh Airport.

He said the government is in contact with the parents of students studying in Kyrgyzstan and the plane which left has coffin for the body of Ali Raza slain in the riots.

He said there are at least 100 Pakistani students present in safe areas and the efforts are afoot to transport the others to safer locations.

Chashma Nuclear Power Plant reopened

ISLAMABAD: Chashma Nuclear Power Plant has been restored again after the annual repairing and gas refilling Monday.

Chashma sources reported that the Nuclear Power Plant of 325 MW, which had been closed for the last 64 days for annual repair and gas refilling has been reopened.

Pakistan’’s atomic experts had participated in the annual repair and gas refilling of power plant.

Chashma Nuclear Power Plant-2 is in progress and will be functional till the end of this current year.

LHC adjourns dual office case till tomorrow

LAHORE: A five-member bench of the Lahore High Court Monday adjourned the hearing of petitions against holding of dual offices by the president till Tuesday.

The petitioner’’s counsel AK Dogar arguing the case contended that as per Article 41(1) of the constitution the president could not hold two offices simultaneously.

The bench comprised Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Ch.Iftikhar Hussain, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rahman and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan.

It was hearing two similar petitions filed by Pakistan Lawyers Forum and Asif Mahmood.

Punjab presents Rs583 billion tax-free budget

LAHORE: Punjab Budget 2010-11 envisaging a total outlay of Rs583.64 billion has been presented.

Punjab Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira in his budget speech here at Punjab Assembly said Rs193.5 billion have been earmarked for development while Rs21 billion allocated for subsidies in the ?tax-free and people friendly? budget for fiscal 2010-11.

He provided the break up of subsidy as: Rs13 billion for wheat; Rs5 billion for Sasti Roti; Rs2 billion for Ramazan package and; Rs1 billion for transport.

For education an amount of Rs53.99 billion has been allocated in the budget for which an additional resource of Rs98 billion is expected to be received by Punjab under NFC Award, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira said.

He said a disposable revenue of Rs168 billion will be arrived at after deduction of Rs3 billion running expenditures and liquid public accounts. The province will get a federal grant of Rs680 million besides Rs12.59 billion as foreign assistance.

An amount of Rs.800 million has been allocated for the improvement of literacy rate.

According to the Development Programme, an amount ofRs.450 million will be spent on-going literacy schemes and Rs. 350 million on new fast moving literacy schemes to achieve the target of 100 percent literacy rate in Punjab by the year of 2019.
